Thank you Henry Mancini. Thank you Jake and Elwood Blues. "It's 106 miles to Chicago. We got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses." "Hit it."
We are not going to take it. No, we ain't gonna take it, anymore.
This one was a little tricky. Two lessons to be learned here. 1, often the beauty and the fun is found in the imperfections. 2, don't draw attention to the imperfections. If we didn't react to it, you may not have noticed. Just play thru like you meant to do that. Oh, and the third lesson here is, Mary's Awesome.
Bob's 80. Seems only right to squeeze in a verse between lessons. This was the verse that popped in our head. Happy Birthday Bob.
Years ago, our dear fiddle playing friend, Ted, gave us some sheet music and said we should learn this tune. So we did. Being that it is titled "Whiskey Before Breakfast", it seems appropriate that it's a little sloppy.
Lots of good birding going on right now. Warblers, Thrashers, Buntings, Orioles, Kinglets........keep an eye out.
Here's a quick take on an old tune. Don't blink.
Seems like a good song to play on a Saturday morning. Duke Ellington, Harry James, Johnny Hodges collaborated to write the music. No wonder it is so cool. Don George wrote the lyrics.
Are you ready kids? I can't hear you!
Love this Tune. Been rolling around in ours heads because we haven't got around much the past year. Hopefully that will change sooner than later. To quote Mary's encouraging words, "let's go strong". We agree, let's.
Here's an old fiddle tune, The Eighth of January. On that day in 1815, the Battle of New Orleans was fought. The War of 1812 was officially over. A treaty had been signed on Christmas Eve, but the news had not yet reached the United States. Jimmy Driftwood wrote words to the melody and called it "The Battle of New Orleans", and Johnny Horton had a number 1 hit with it in 1959. Driftwood wrote many great songs such as "The Tennessee Stud". He also had a crazy homemade guitar from his grandfather, made from a fence post and a headboard.
Here's a medley, or "mashup" as the kids these days are wont to say, of 3 songs we first heard in cartoons growing up. The first always accompanied an inebriated person, the second a hillbilly, the third a seafarer. Cartoons taught us so much.
Gotta Love a New Guitar!!!
We did this a couple few weeks ago, not so bad so here, enjoy. We'll send it out to our peeps in The Manatawny Creek Ramblers.
Come on out to Fleetwood, tomorrow, Saturday October 3rd, 10-2 and listen to these super cool peeps make some noise on Main Street. It's Fleetwood's Fun Time Main Street Merchant Day Carnival Goodtime Radio Hour!
Looks like we are doing it again, with CDC guidelines and social distancing and all... Fleetwood's Fall Fest Fun Day Main Street Merchant Day, Saturday 10am til 2pm. We'll be on Main Street, in that little walkway thing they call a town square. Come listen to the kids in our community make some noise, and some music too!
Little something to celebrate Hank Williams Birthday.
We haven't shared a song in forever and a day, and we just found out it's Freddie Kings Birthday. So Here you go, without delay, an acoustic version of the classic, Hide Away.
You down with PPE? Yeah you know us. Wait, that doesn't rhyme.
Masked and Anonymous
Finally! We did a in person lesson! We are opening up the studio again!!! Mask up, it's required. And look at that cool guitar. It's like a race car but in guitar form.
We're not in Kansas anymore. Let's face it people, we probably never were. And we have no idea which preposition best describes our relationship to the rainbow at this point.
The world ain't perfect, at one point we play a B natural instead of B flat in this song, but it is wonderous to wonder about it.
Here's an old fiddle tune we worked up.
