We received a welcomed message from the PA Dental Association yesterday that Dentistry is now considered Essential Heathcare. Our patients will no longer have to be concerned about not receiving necessary dental care. We were surprised that we were shutdown earlier this year, but those concerns about it happening again can be put aside. We are here to support your dental care as always and maintain the greatest safety measures including N95 masks, air purifier, sneeze guards, upgraded suction to reduce aerosols, 60 second hydrogen peroxide pre-rinse and all additional PPE: face shields, eyewear, additional surgical masks, impervious gowns, caps. Our entire team has remained healthy & are thankful for your complete trust in us. We will get through this together & power through this pandemic

Dentistry is far more than just cleaning teeth or removing cavities. It can change lives by: changing someone’s self-confidence to smile more improving the digestion system by allowing one to chew more efficiently allowing more air to the respiratory system by improving the position of teeth which gives a better position for one’s trachea (sleep apnea). ... This patient is 29 years old. For the last 10 years he was simply told by other doctors you need surgery. I met him in July 2018. At this young age, the pt had no pain and the body learned how to cope with the jaw malformation. His first visit was a long discussion of my findings and my concerns about the long term effects as he aged if nothing was done. Through gaining trust and introducing him to my trusted team of specialists he said yes to this surgery called Lefort I. His upper jaw (maxilla) was surgically moved 7.5mm forward. Today, he had his first post-op visit and my surgeon’s (Dr. Shachika Khanna) text can be seen below. My entire team was overjoyed. Proudly, our office style is small & intimate. We get to know all of our patients on deeper levels then just treating their teeth. We want them to feel safe & we want to understand their goals. This patient was no different and he knew the treatment was necessary because we all voiced it in a caring non-pressure way. Dear Friends of Rittenhouse Smiles, As many of you know, we re-opened on May 26, 2020. During the shutdown, my team & I remained engaged via Zoom calls, kept up daily and continue to do so with the most recent updates from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Department of Health (DOH) and the American Dental Association (ADA). I have maintained a membership with the ADA for most of my 16 year career as a full member across the national, state and local city clubs. I made i...t my daily mission during shutdown to acquire every PPE recommended, even though there were shortages, to keep my team and everyone entering the office safe. These included N95 masks with an additional Level III surgical mask layered on top, face shields, gowns, gloves & surgical caps among other additions. Shortly before opening, I was on a Zoom call with several other local dentists for a monthly study club meeting and realized quickly that not all my colleagues were able to acquire all of these items. I felt fortunate my efforts were fruitful and my team was very grateful. The one recommendation that I did not follow from the ADA when I reopened on May 26th was to charge a PPE fee to each patient. Before jumping on the bandwagon, I felt it was important for me to show you, my patients, that additional costs for PPE was not going to be at the forefront of my return. Since May, I decided to absorb the mask price increase and accepted it as a business expense. This past week, we placed our monthly order for masks and gloves. In previous months, we’ve experienced a slight increase in pricing from 3% to 15% with these items every month since May. This week we discovered that our cost on gloves bought directly from the manufacturer increased by 40%. We called around to a few of our dental supply distributers and they confirmed the recent price explosion. First masks and now gloves as well as many other essential protective & preventive items. The pandemic is bringing the notion of supply and demand to life as we know it. Thus, it is unfortunate but needed for us to now do what many offices have done for months and begin to charge a $15 PPE fee/visit. I’ve been told that a few of the insurance companies are accepting it as a coded charge and are paying for it between $15-$25. Please know, as soon as any fees on these items drop back to normal rates we will remove it. In summary, we are not saying that we are charging simply because we have to wear more PPE then before, but rather we are charging due to the recent information given to us on a huge price increase on these important items. As always, we are here to answer any questions. Good Sunday Morning to ALL! We are open, we are healthy, we are following every recommendation from the CDC, DOH & ADA. Honestly, it was easy for us because our intimate, no-rush, detail-focused mission has never allowed for a crowded office even before the pandemic. We officially opened 5/26/20 with limited treatment and on 6/8/20 it was announced ALL treatment is allowed. Getting back to seeing my patients has been so enjoyable for me. I truly love what I do & hearing pat...ients thank me this past week for being open humbled me. What? My response was No, thank YOU for trusting me and allowing me to continue to do what I love. I am so grateful for my TEAM too! Not only did everyone return to work, but they came back with passion, enthusiasm, knowledge and with overwhelming support. Even during the shutdown, we gathered for Zoom sessions to exchange thoughts, ideas and stay current on updates. We assisted so many emergent patients remotely and at times in-person. This month is also special because it’s Pride Month. Join us as we celebrate all that is good in our world. Philly Pride Day festival would have been today 6/14/20 but sadly cancelled due to the pandemic.
