TODAYS SPIRITUAL READING FOR FEBRUART 9, 2021

Robert R. Garris 27.01.2021

OUR WORLD HAS CHANGED THIS PAST YEAR OF 2020 When we look back and see what has happened to our nation, a virus claimed 200,000 lives and more, close to 400,0...00 ill from this virus that came from China. Our country shut down from business. people lives uprooted and business lost from this virus. Riots, people killed on the streets business burned down and streets taken over from rioters. Our churches closed down for months not able to have services. Food places closed down resthomes closed down from the virus so families could not see their loved ones. Election fraud and uprising from the election ballots and now Washington DC is filled with national troops for the election of the next President of the United States. A year that we would like to forget that it happened in our lives that we never seen before. As we enter into 2021 we need to lift up our spirits into the future and know that we can trust in God's presence and pledge to keep his promises. Look towards the unchanging nature of God's Word on which we bases our hope and our expectation for the future. Each and everyone us need to stand together, serve, pray, and give together, and God will fulfill our expectation. If we read in Ephesians 3:20,: Exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us"! All of us need to move into this new year trusting in God's unchanging character--resting in His presence and His promises -- looking forward to seeing Him in a new way, with new eyes, through His Word as we continue into this new year. We need to challenge ourselves to be in the Word this coming year, to bring ourselves and receiving fellowship with Jesus and going back to church and bring God back into our lives. Be open to sharing your faith, increasing your spiritual influence. Be in the center of what God is doing in the world. Be united with others believers who are committed, like you are and sharing the truth. So lets look forward in seeing how God uses us together in His work throughout 2021 and beyond this year. Each of us need to search our hearts and return to God and gather together in church and pray for a peaceful year coming to our nation finding peace and comfort in our lives from this virus and for the loved ones that we lost from this past year. Help bring our churches back together and not abandon them for Jesus never abandon us for He said I will never abandon you for I will be with you till the end of time." God's blessing be with you. THIRD UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST 1522 ELM STREET SOUTH GREENSBURG PA. JANUARY 15, 2021 ... FRIDAY'S SCRIPTURE READING JOSHUA1:8 READ AND OBEY THIS BOOK OF THE LAW SHALL NOT DEPART FRO YOUR MOUTH, BUT YOU SHALL MEDITATE IN IT DAY AND NIGHT, THAT YOU MAY OBSERVE TO DO ACCORDING TO ALL THAT IS WRITTEN IN IT. FOR THEN YOU WILL MAKE YOUR WAY PROSPEROUS, AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE GOOD SUCCESS. A mother helps her young daughter discover what happened to her first attempt at baking cookies. "Did you read the recipe carefully, sweetie? the mom asks. "yes I read it twice before I made the cookies," the disappointed daughter replies. "But did you follow the recipe?" her wise mother asks. We all know there is a difference between reading directions and following directions. Or, to use biblical terminology, there is a difference between hearing the Word and obeying the Word. When God prepared Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, He gave him a two step recipe for success: Meditate (read carefully) on the Book of the Law and observe (obey) the Book of the Law. Only by following both steps would Joshua find God's blessing for success. We must follow Joshua's example daily: Read God's Word for the purpose of knowing how to walk in God's ways. Reading and obeying is the recipe for blessing. The Holy Spirit who inspired the Scriptures will expect obedience to the Scriptures. Blessings from Pastor Robert Garris Third United Church of Christ.
