On Sunday afternoon at approximately 5:20 PM, we responded to a hit and run, where a horse was struck by a vehicle. This happened in the area of Reno Street and Noonen Street. The vehicle, a white Kia Optima, with two young white females, struck the horse and fled west, in the direction of Rochester or possibly Freedom. The vehicle may have passenger side damage and possibly a broken mirror. The horse sustained a laceration to hits hind leg and its rider was uninjured. If anyone has any information please contact the Rochester Township Police at 724-774-7278.

This week the Township police investigated a possible child luring incident. We have spoken to the child and also to the person involved that was described as the perpetrator. We spoke at length with the individual and believe that this was a misunderstanding. We will continue to aggressively patrol during the hours that children will be coming to and from school as we have always done. We urge parents and neighbors to watch out as well, as we can not be everywhere all the time. We continue to believe that we have a very safe community. We also urge people to not jump to conclusions on social media; accusing people without evidence. This is how innocent people get hurt. As always please report anything that you feel is not "right". Let the police investigate and make the determination.

Rochester Township Officers Danielle Ripper, Rich Lockhart and Matt Piccinini, along with Rochester Borough Officers Anthony Zarillo, John Farmer, Mark Murphy and Dawn Shane helping the kindergarteners shop at the Santa Shop. Officers spent the day shopping and wrapping presents and then provided them with a pizza party afterwards. Thank you to the PTA for putting the Santa Shop on and also the the Rochester Lions club which donated $5 for each child and to the Rochester Boro...ugh Police Association, Rochester Township Board of Commissioners, All Dogs go to Heather, and Officers from both departments for the donations to give each Kindergartner an additional $5 and the pizza party afterwards. This is a good way for children to interact with police officers and by doing this with students when they are this young, it establishes a good relationship foundation for which to build on as they get older. By doing this with kindergartens every year it lets them meet new children every year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. See more

This shows that scammers will call anyone and everyone. Several of our own officers have been contacted like this while working. Fortunately this officer was able to record it so people can see what they do. Never give information over the phone. Never get gift cards to pay off any "fines" or "debts" for the IRS or any other government entity and if they say one of your relatives has been arrested and needs bail money, that is not how that part of the criminal system works. Verify with other relatives and you can always call the Rochester Township police or your local police department before giving any money or information away. Please pass this on to your older family members and neighbors, that don't have social media.
