In our continuing effort to research & make available to the public, we have digitized the old Wolfersberger Ledger - first store in Rockwood. Thanks to Violet "Babe" Hall Caruso! Be patient, it's a huge pdf file - almost 700 pages. I wouldn't try to open on a phone. https://1drv.ms/b/s!AubvlWQUdhhRhcB3tyTDEe-_m4zpqA?e=Inj8lu
Something interesting we did today - we've been doing some research on the Eagle family (as in Eagle Hill) and one of the descendants brought in a tintype. We were able to scan and adjust it to be able to see his facial features. Added this to his Findagrave memorial, with her permission.
Cute younger residents from the 1940s?
Mystery solved? Our RAHGS neighbor, Dave, gave us a broken gravestone that they found in a drainage ditch near Broadway. So, I told him I'd try to find out where it came from. I think this was the FIRST stone for Anna Mira Wolfersberger Wiltrout. But when her husband, Jacob Sterner Wiltrout died 33 years later, they put her on her husband's stone, and tossed the first one. What do YOU think? Both are in Rockwood IOOF.
Look what the ladies found rolled up in a corner last week. Sorry it has some fade, but it still mostly readable. Would have taken the photo before it went under glass, but the roll was too tight. We have to get it to relax.
A second shot of the old Firetruck that we have. Don't know the year or the men in the photo. Can you identify any of them?
SWEET HOMECOMING FOR ROCKWOOD VFD FIRETRUCK! The guys took this 1928 LaFrance out for a few months for repairs, and gently returned her to her own stall at RAHGS this morning! Thank you Debbie Neimiller for the photos! Adding another
JUST FOR FUN! We're all tired of TV & movies, still masked and homebound... Linda was homebound 11 years ago, and worked on this with Kristi. Not professional, but hope you enjoy it! It's a walking tour of Somerset. Lots of old photos. With narration by Mike Hardwig. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AubvlWQUdhhRhYdg2jgp_NZkqja9tw
Well, it's a small start, but a start nevertheless. Kirk said we'd have something running before Christmas!
This newspaper article includes a photo of Militia Solders Drilling on the Square of Meyers Mill (Later Meyersdale) in 1863. The article has a date of July e, 1979. It was too wide to scan and would be too small to read it put into one image. A slight overlap has intentionally be scanned to include the entire article. Be sure to click on the photo(s) to enlarge your view.
Well done! Congrats, Meyersdale!
We think you might want to pitch in on this restoration! We welcome any amount!
May all have a great day of giving thanks for all that we have been given!
