This afternoon, the Rose Tree Fire Company, with support from Media, Middletown, Swarthmore, Broomall and Aston Fire Companies responded to a fire in a home on Idlewild Lane. Lieutenant Cosgrove of RTFC had command. Crews arrived to find the living room on fire, but quickly extinguished the flames. Thankfully, no injuries were reported and the fire was placed under control before it could spread to the rest of the home. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

The Rose Tree Fire Company, along with Montgomery County Squads 88 and 10, are covering Lower Providence Fire Company today while they attend the funeral of Chief Branden Sisca of Trappe Fire Company. Chief Sisca was one of two State Troopers struck and killed on the side of I-95 last month. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Troopers Sisca and Mack.

Last night, the Rose Tree Fire Company assisted Springfield Fire Company at a house fire on Beatty Road. Thankfully, the residents were able to safely escape. Crews from Springfield and neighboring fire companies gained access to the home and placed the fire under control. RTFC assisted with overhaul to ensure the fire had not spread to concealed spaces, and ventilation to ensure excessive heat and harmful gases created by the fire were pushed out of the home. Early this morning, RTFC was at it again, responding to fire alarms at 2am and 6am. After investigation, both calls proved to be false alarms. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

No two emergencies are the same, so our firetrucks need to carry a lot of equipment to ensure we’re ready to meet any situation. Rose Tree Fire Company’s training this week focused on the tools we use most often. Officers took turns presenting on the evolution that led to the development of modern firefighting tools, as well as their common (and some not-so-common) uses. We’ll be sharing some of that history and information with you in the coming weeks. If you’re interested in serving your community and joining RTFC, send us a message. No experience is required. #JoinRTFC #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

We offer our sincere thanks and congratulations to William MacCain Jr. on completing a successful three-year tenure as Chief of the Rose Tree Fire Company. If you saw RTFC at any of the nearly 900 emergencies we responded to during Chief MacCain’s tenure, then you no doubt saw him at the center of the action, organizing our response and maintaining command. Being the chief of a fire company is a difficult job under any circumstances, and 2020 certainly presented challenges n...o one could have foreseen. Undeterred, he worked tirelessly to make sure our crew stayed healthy and ready to serve you at a moment’s notice. If that were not enough to demonstrate Chief MacCain’s dedication to our community, he was also one of the driving forces behind the mini- fire truck parades that helped so many of our friends and neighbors mark special occasions from the safety of their homes in the early days of the pandemic. Chief MacCain’s commitment to the Township and the fire service has been a life long endeavor that shows no sign of letting up. He joined RTFC while in high school, and although term limits prevented him from seeking a fourth year as Chief, he has been elected to serve as Assistant Chief under newly sworn in Chief Robert Brown and Deputy Chief Michael Cosgrove. Please join us in thanking outgoing-Chief MacCain in the comments below. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation #givethanks #gratitude

A Christmas break wasn’t in the cards for the Rose Tree Fire Company this year. Our volunteer crew assembled just after midnight to answer a report of sparking wires near Park Avenue and Rose Hill Road. Then, just after 10 am, RTFC was back in action to assist Rocky Run Fire Company at a two alarm house fire. All seven residents safely escaped the home. Two firefighters from a neighboring fire company were transported to the hospital after sustaining minor injuries, but wer...e released later that day. Finally, as the holiday was wrapping up, RTFC was dispatched to assist Newtown Square Fire Company with a house fire just before midnight. The fire was placed under control without injury or significant damage. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

Rose Tree Fire Company 11.12.2020

Since everyone was okay and the damage was minimal, we thought we’d infuse this call summary with a little Christmas cheer: It was the afternoon before Christmas, and the Rose Tree Fire Company wasn’t at the firehouse - they were out fighting a fire in need of a douse. Away to the fire they flew like a flash, tore open the doors, and stretched a hose in a mad dash. The situation was handled, the fire didn’t put up a fight. It ensured a Merry Christmas for all, and for all a... good night. Special thanks to our friends at Media Fire Hook and Ladder #1 - Station 23, Broomall Fire Company, and Springfield Fire Company, the EMS crews at Media and Riddle Hospital, and Upper Providence Township Police Department, Delaware County for assisting. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

Santa’s sleigh is packed and he’s ready to hit the streets of Upper Providence Township this Saturday, December 12 at 9 AM. Things will be a little different this year but no less festive. Unlike in past years, Santa’s trip will not be spread out over several days. Santa is still going to visit all the streets he has in past years, but with the help of a little Christmas magic he’ll be able to visit them all this Saturday morning. Listen for the sounds of our sirens beginni...ng at 9 AM. When you hear them, you’ll know Santa’s coming to your neck of the woods. Santa’s asked us to take some precautions this year to keep you and our crew safe. We won’t be able to stop for pictures and our elves won’t be able to hand out candy canes. But, Santa is still coming to town, escorted by the Rose Tree Fire Company, so he can greet all the good boys and girls in the Township. The forecast is clear for Santa’s trip this Saturday, but if a rain date is needed we will announce one at a later date. We are looking forward to spreading a little holiday cheer with you this weekend!

Santa Claus is coming to town! The Rose Tree Fire Company will be escorting Santa through Upper Providence Township this Saturday, weather permitting. Santa’s asked us to take extra precautions this year to keep you and our crew safe, so we won’t be able to stop for pictures or hand out candy canes, but we will make sure everyone gets a chance to see him, just like in years past. Santa’s visit to Upper Providence begins this Saturday, December 12 at 9 AM. Details on the rou...te he will follow will be released soon, so that you can be sure to catch him during his tour. Rain dates will be announced if needed. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for details!

The Rose Tree Fire Company didn’t get much sleep on Saturday, as they were called to two fires during the early morning hours. Just after 3:30 AM, RTFC was called to assist Newtown Square Fire Company with a fire in an office building near Gentile’s Fruit Market. Crews were able to place the fire under control before it could spread beyond the office suite where it started. Shortly after arriving back at the station, the alarm went off again just before 7 AM, as RTFC was called to assist Broomall Fire Company at an apartment fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

Rose Tree Fire Company 26.10.2020

The Rose Tree Fire Company has had a busy start to the holiday season. Just after noon, RTFC responded to a report of a turkey fryer fire. Upper Providence Township Police were the first on scene, and were able to make sure the house was evacuated before placing the fire under control with a fire extinguisher. RTFC, with assistance from Media and Springfield Fire Companies made sure the fire was fullly extinguished and hadn’t spread to any of the areas under the home’s sid...ing that was melted by the fire. Earlier this morning, RTFC helped rescue two residents of Rose Tree Place who were trapped in a malfunctioning elevator. The residents were extricated without incident and with plenty of time to make it to dinner. The Rose Tree Fire Company wishes you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. Please continue to stay safe and enjoy your time with your loved ones. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

Dine with la Padella next week and 10% of your bill will be donated to the Rose Tree Fire Company, at no extra cost to you. Next week is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s focus is fire safety in the kitchen. What better way to stay fire safe in your kitchen than to let the folks at la Padella do the cooking for you. Between Tuesday, October 6 and Saturday, October 10, whether you dine-in or take-out, your order will help support your all-volunteer fire company (and gets you a fantastic Italian meal to boot). Be sure to dine with la Padella next week and thank them for helping to support RTFC!

Yesterday afternoon, the Rose Tree Fire Company assisted Newtown Square Fire Company with a kitchen fire in the Ellis Preserve apartment complex. RTFC’s crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the balcony of the second-floor apartment that was on fire, and went to work stretching a hose to the apartment and checking the floor above to ensure the fire had not spread. Newtown Square was able to quickly place the fire under control with the support of assisting fire companies, and thankfully no injuries were reported. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

Today we honor the thousands of people, first responders and citizens alike, who had their lives taken on September 11, 2001. Their memory will never be forgotten, but we will also always remember how we came together in the days and months that followed to pick up the pieces and move ahead. Each year on this day, as our crew meets in the early morning to display the American flag in remembrance of those we lost, we’re reminded of that spirit of unity that empowered us to ov...ercome unfathomable tragedy and navigate in an uncharted world. Remember all those who died on September 11, as well as those who continue to suffer lasting effects from the tragic events of that day. Honor their memory and sacrifice by maintaining the bonds of community that enable us to overcome even the hardest of times. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation #delawarecountyfallenfirefightersmemorial #neverforget911 #wewillneverforget911 #neverforget #fdny @ Rose Tree Fire Company

If you were out and about yesterday, you may have seen the Rose Tree Fire Company’s crews in service on two minor fires. Just before 11 AM, RTFC was dispatched to Media Train Station to extinguish a small fire on the tracks near the station platform. Later that afternoon, RTFC was dispatched again for a small brush fire in a resident’s backyard on Farnum Road. Although both fires were relatively minor and easily extinguished, they serve as a reminder to never let situations get of hand before calling for help. If you see or suspect fire, call 911. It’s better to be overly cautious than to be left wishing you’d acted sooner. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

More than 3,000 fires and 50 deaths each year are caused by faulty extension cords. Practice these tips to keep your home fire safe: Only buy cords approved by an independent testing laboratory, such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or Intertek (ETL). Never use a cord that feels hot or is damaged in any way.... Never run cords under rugs or carpets, and make sure the cord isn’t pinched by furniture or other objects. Pay attention to the rating of your cord and the wattage of the appliance you’re powering. Not all cords can be used outside or with all appliances. Extension cords are a temporary fix. If continuous use is needed, consult an electrician about installing new outlets. #RTFCSafetyTip #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

The Rose Tree Fire Company wishes you a happy and safe Labor Day. This isn’t the end of summer any of us imagined when the year started, and we miss our pre-pandemic norms as much as you. But let’s continue to be as safe as possible as we celebrate today: - Outside events are safer than inside ones.... - Provide supplies that promote good hygiene like hand sanitizer, paper towels, and disinfectant. - Discourage shared foods, like communal chip bowls. - Practice social distancing and mask wearing. #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation See more

A tornado watch is in effect for Delaware County and the surrounding areas until 10 PM tonight. Stay tuned to the news and local weather services for updates, and watch your phones for alerts from the National Weather Service. If a tornado hits, go to the lowest floor, small center room (like a bathroom or closet), under a stairwell, or in an interior hallway with no windows. Crouch as low as possible to the floor, facing down and cover your head with your hands. DO NOT go outside or open your windows. #RTFCSafetyTip #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

It was back to basics last night for the Rose Tree Fire Company, as the crew practiced putting up ground ladders. Ground ladders are one of the most versatile tools at a firefighter’s disposal. A properly placed ladder can help firefighters quickly gain access to people who are trapped inside, to escape in the event of an emergency, or to safely break windows to ventilate the poisonous gases produced by a fire, among many other uses. RTFC’s crew practiced a variety of techn...iques, some of which require multiple people and others of which can be accomplished by a single firefighter. If you’re interested in learning new skills and serving your community, contact us or swing by the station any Tuesday night shortly before 7 PM. #JoinRTFC #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Delaware County. Dangerous winds (30-40 MPH, with gusts in excess of 70 MPH) may arrive in Upper Providence Township as early as tomorrow morning, and will be followed shortly thereafter by heavy rains that may bring surge flooding. Keep safe by observing these tips: -Follow the news and sign up for Delco Alert to receive the latest news and warnings.... -Bring in any lawn furniture, flag poles, or other items that might become projectiles during the storm. -Do not go out during the storm unless you absolutely have to. If you must drive, be wary of flood-prone areas (such as the intersection of E. Rose Tree and Sandy Bank Roads) and downed trees or power lines. -If your power goes out and you run a generator, make sure your generator’s exhaust is not venting into your house. Try to place your generator at least 20 feet from the house and position the exhaust so it points away from your home. RTFC performed maintenance checks on its equipment over the weekend to ensure we’ll be ready to handle any emergency. #RTFCSafetyTip #RoseTreeFireCompany #UpperProvidenceTownship #UpperProvidence #DelcoPA #MediaPa #volunteerfirefighter #volunteerfiredepartment #volunteerappreciation

Don’t underestimate the force and power of water. Over half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous flood water. The second most common cause is walking into or near flood waters. Below are some areas in our neighborhood that are prone to dangerous flooding. If you know of others, please let everyone know in the comments so we can all stay aware and safe. . -Crum Creek Road and Waters Edge -E.
