I know you've all been waiting to hear this! Bottled honey this evening. Pound jars $8.00. This is summer honey.
We have supers full of honey! Cody is spending the day spinning some of the frames and getting ready for the fall honey flow. I was unable to go or assist due to my recent bee episode. I will be bottling this week and spring honey will be for sale. My newest dr appt is September 12 and I'm hoping my antibodies will be high enough to start immunotherapy. I'll post as soon as the honey is ready for you all.
I want to thank everyone that has checked in on me over the last week. For those that don't know, I was stung last weekend and had an anaphylaxis reaction. I have been told I am lucky to be alive. It is by the grace of God, Cody was with me. I have never had an allergic reaction before and this was severe. I was not breathing. Cody ran to the house to grab his epi pens and administered 2 epi shots before getting me conscious again. The 911 operator told him to start CPR, but ...as he was preparing to start, I began to breath on my own. Scary stuff!! Lots of interest in what will happen to our bees. Doctors have told me to give them up. Wow! That's easier said than done. I have had a hard time coming to terms with giving them up. There is so much time and energy invested at this point in the season to give them to someone else. Cody and I agree they can not remain at the house. This weekend, they are being moved off our property for my safety. Cody is going to continue to work the hives through the season since we are in prime honey collection. So -- there will be honey available to all that have asked and begged for it. Yeah!!!! I start seeing an allergy specialist on Monday that works with a lot of bee allergy patients. I hope to be able to start immunotherapy for bee venom. Cody has been reading very positive research on the effectiveness. As a matter of fact, there are many beekeepers with bee allergies. I met the son of a beekeeper tonight with bee allergies. He has been in an immunotherapy program and was stung recently with NO reaction. My conversation with this teenage boy calmed my fears about all that has happened this week and about starting immunotherapy. Thank you Luke!!! In the meantime, I am armed with an epi pen at all times and taking precautions to avoid another incident. Once again - thank you for reaching out. Bee safe!! Love to all --- Heather
Here's a quick video showing the bees in action. I love the sound!! One of my favorite parts of working bees!!!
Spent a couple hours in the bee yard tonight. The bees are making lots of honey. We are adding supers to many of the hives. Saw a couple queens while inspecting the hives. Here is a look at a beautiful unmarked queen. Isn't she wonderful!!!
Put in an order for bee supplies 6 weeks ago. I was told we would have it in 8-9 business days. I guess everyone in the bee world is busy! Anyway - my order FINALLY arrived and I am frantically building bee boxes and frames. The bees are looking great. Looking forward to some spring honey!!!
Called out on a second swarm today!! Wow - the bees are busy. Anyway - I arrived just as they took flight. I couldn't capture them, but it was amazing to watch them pepper the sky and fly off like a dark cloud. What an awesome day!!! If you see a swarm, please give Cody or me a call. Tough to see this swarm. They were about 20 feet off the ground. Beautiful swarm - I'd guess around 20,000 bees.
Chasing swarms today! Never a dull moment around these girls.
Spent the evening in the bee yard. The girls are working hard. I was pleased with the progress on several nuc boxes. Want to see a queen up close?? Check out the pictures!!
We added another caught swarm to the bee yard last night! Cody's dad captured one and dropped it off at our place. Great job dad!!!! No pictures of that one. We were setting it up in the dark. Swarm season is here. If you see a swarm, please give us a call.
Updated look at the bee yard.
Happy Friday!!! I went out to check on swarm traps tonight and we were successful in catching another swarm!! Here are a couple pix of the trap and what we found when we opened the lid. We are spending our Friday night building more bee boxes. Please give us a call if you see a swarm. We are happy to bring them home to our house. Lol
