The Salvation Army operates the Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) program right here in Carlisle. The program, designed for individuals living with long-term disabilities who had previously been chronically homeless, houses six individuals across the Borough. Through this program, our residents have access to safe, clean, affordable housing. They also have access to a Case Manager and supportive services, such as the food, cleaning, and hygiene supplies you see pictured. Beyond this, our residents have access to clothing and household vouchers, referrals to outside agencies, and utility assistance. In addition to our Stuart House and Genesis House programs, PSH is a part of our Salvation Army tradition of helping our community!
Dinner today was Ham, Mac & Cheese, String Beans and Ice Cream! The Captains and their family were glad to be able to serve the Carlisle community on this beautiful 4th of July!! #happy4thofjuly #serving #carlisle #community
In the past year, Lynette has suffered from both COVID and other medical issues. Despite the lasting impact of her medical problems, Lynette has managed to find a PT job that accommodates her limitations. Unfortunately, the income is not enough to pay her bills, so Lynette is hoping to start a 2nd PT job this week. As she works thru this financial transition, Lynette said that the gas card, food, cleaning products, and hygiene items provided by our Social Services Office are all vital blessings! Please join us in praying for Lynette during her transition that the work will not be too physically overwhelming.
What a beautiful day for a picnic! Our Senior Center members gathered at LeTort Park today for yard and table games, lunch, and delicious milkshakes from George's Pizza. We’ve missed all these faces and hope to reopen our doors soon!
We've welcome a new Stuart House resident this month. "Amy" came to The Salvation Army after fleeing a dangerous situation, and is now able to say that she is safely housed. Amy has a number of barriers she wants to work on, and is very excited to be engaging with our case management team. She is working hard to maintain her full-time employment, and is taking steps to improve her mental health. All in all, we are very excited to have Amy join us at Stuart House!
Have you ever wondered what life was like 50 years ago? Now is your chance to find out! We are beginning a community pen pal program for our seniors! We are seeking 10 volunteers (more may be needed as we hear from interested seniors) who would like to pen-pal with a senior citizen. We ask that volunteers commit to sending at least two letters a month. To protect confidentiality, letters should be sent to the Senior Center and then forwarded to your pen pal. Please sign up with your name and e-mail to be matched with a local senior! Thank you!

ATTENTION SNAP RECIPIENTS: Congress voted in December as part of the latest COVID-19 relief package to temporarily increase SNAP benefits. Beginning in Febru...ary, SNAP households will see a 15 percent increase in their regular benefits issuance. For example, a household of four receiving maximum benefits would normally receive $680. However, with the 15 percent increase, the household will now receive $782. This temporary boost will run through June 30, 2021. While the Senior Center remains closed for in-person activities, seniors are able to pick up hot and frozen meals via a drive-thru service. Thanks to the Cumberland County Office of Aging for making this possible! #StillServing #HereForGood
Special thanks to Jeff from Stan's Beverage Distributor who generously matched all the donations received in their desktop kettles during the holidays. In total, over $8,400 was raised at their location!!
