It’s holiday time! The Fourth of July is this weekend and we’re psyched! We are making LOTS of cherry and blueberry pies, chocolate cakes with chocolate buttercream (and possibly a few with peanut butter frostinglet me know if you would like some of those), and burger and hot dog buns. We will have our yummy Everything Onion breads and rolls, too, but if you want some, please order so we know how many to make. On another note, it’s come to our attention that some of our Gree...k Cheese pies were lacking in the cheese department. We have fixed that issue and have made a new batch that is filled with cheese. If you got a defective cheese pie, please let us know so we can make it right. Well, enough of the talk. I’ll let you get to the menus below and decide what you need for your holiday weekend. Do you ever have a week that is already long when you've reached Tuesday? Well, that's this week. The good thing is, we had a great time today developing a new chocolate donut recipe. Now, before you ask, yes. I will have a very limited number of these available this weekend. They are a work in progress. Needless to say, I'm stuffed and off chocolate for the next 24-48 hours. Because it's been such a long week already, I have no recipe for this week. In fact, I think I'm goin...g to revamp the way we ship the newsletter. Our days/weeks are longer right now because of our staffing issues. Hence, we'll be shipping two recipes a month, rather than four. I hope that's ok. If you have feedback, we are always interested in hearing it! Likewise, if you have recipes to share, I'm always interested in seeing them. Wow! The weather this week is really surprising us. From snow last week to basking in the sun this week, it's looking good. And that's perfect for those who love Derby Day festivities! For those of you who weren't aware, this Saturday is Derby Day - the day when we are all horse racing fans no matter if we don't know anything about the sport. (Even those of us who don't gamble enjoy a good natured contest once in a while.) Besides, what a great excuse to drink mint juleps an...d eat Derby Pie! What's Derby Pie? Well, this year I learned that it is NOT a chocolate pecan pie. Rather it is a chocolate and walnut pie with a good bit of Kentucky Bourbon in it. It's basically the best chocolate chip cookie you've ever had all baked into a yummy pie crust. The trick is to let it cool and top it with whipped cream or, better yet, bourbon whipped cream. (Obviously I didn't have any of that for the photo, but the pie was amazing!) What else do you serve for Derby Day? Anything you want.
