Let’s talk about rotational grazing. If you haven’t heard of the term, simply put, rotational grazing is moving your livestock to different sections of your pasture every set number of days (depending on how large your herd is/ the sizing of your sections) to maintain healthy, nutritious forages. I’m in a few cattle farmers groups and see a lot of debates on whether or not rotational grazing actually worth it/ if it really does improves pasture health, and the questions is, d...oes it? Well.. it does!!! Grass and clover become stressed from grazing and need time to grow back. Without the break from grazing, grass and clover will not sufficiently grow back, minimizing your grass/ clover growth. Sectioning your pasture the right way is a key to rotational grazing. Giving your cattle too much space will turn into spot grazing which is when your cattle will eat the savory grass (overgrazed) while leaving the other areas (undergrazed). All of this leads to insufficient grass growth in your pastures affecting your cattle nutrition! Anyone with the chance to try this out with your cattle should definitely take the opportunity #rotationalgrazing #SandyHollowFarms #Cattle

Meet Miley!! Miley was born in March of 2019 and ended up needing bottle fed due to her momma not supplying the milk. So every morning and every night we were outside with Miley bottle feeding the sweet girl. We had doubts if she’d survive being born in negative degree weather along with not getting the proper nutrition from her mom. Fast forward almost a year later and Miley is still here at Sandy Hollow Farms and thriving (with some major booty gains)! She is the sweetest most fun loving calf I’ve ever gotten to meet on this farm. I can safely say from feeding her twice a day, everyday, for months, we have developed such an awesome bond!!
