What a TRIP! It’s always a great time when SAS team gets together to compete and hang out! This journey to American Nationals in Las Vegas wasn’t any different. Professor Anton Gotsmanov was able to achieve a 2nd place finish in the Master 1 Black Belt division. Nnena Odim smashed the competition in her Blue belt debut! in the Master 2 Gi division, in the Master 2 Absolute and another in the No Gi Master 2 division! Exceeding expectations as always ... Amazing results were also achieved by professor Guybson "The Spartan" Sa who won the Master 1 black belt absolute. Our Professor Daniel Tavares won in Gi and No Gi as well. Scott Champion got . Marisa K and John Kickbusch was able to get a second place finish! Special shout-out to professor Patrick McElderry for fighting like an animal and getting on that podium as well! It feels good to comeback with some hardware but the memories and experiences far outweigh the shine of any medal. At SAS Philadelphia we feel very lucky to be a part of this tight knit family onto the next one!!!

We are closed today at SAS Philadelphia to honor the veterans and all those fallen who made the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you all for your service!

The squad was hungry for more so we ventured out to FUJI BJJ in Allentown! The turnout was great and we picked up a ton of valuable experience

The sun was in our eyes and the gym was 1000 degrees but nothing slows down or stops the @sasphiladelphiabjj train ! FUJI Allentown: Ava ... Joey M Shawn Nnena Super proud of Mackenzie for going out there and fighting hard in her first tournament! Elias was another first timer who came away with a dominant win in No Gi. Karlee and Finn got a lot of experience never having done a tournament. Great effort by Jace and Quimuel, you will get em next time boys! This team continues to amaze me with their dedication and commitment to the jiujitsu grind. They all love the sport and enjoy the process When I’m with them I truly feel like my life has a purpose.

I thought that this photo and this tiny human deserves her own post! Congratulations to Ava who fought hard yesterday and won Gold in TWO separate divisions! She’s definitely the toughest most hard working 5 year old I know Ava is not only very technical for her age but she also drills movements relentlessly, has a lot of patience and helps the newer students. She has showed us many instances of kindness and compassion. Very grateful for Ava!

November marks my 13th Jiu-Jitsu-versary! What a wild ride these last 13 years have been. I can confidently say that I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the countless lessons, victories, defeats, ego crushing smashings, new life long friendships, support of teammates, constantly pushing myself far beyond my comfort zone and growing exponentially every time I do. I can’t thank my professor and mentor @danieltavaresbjjacademy enough for getting my journey started, being... patient with me when I was a hot headed 20 something year old, continuing to lead the way for me to this day and showing me how to conduct myself as a black belt professor One thing that recently hit me like a train of positive emotions is the incredible feeling I experienced watching my students develop, test themselves through battle and succeed. I never knew this source of gratification existed! Seeing them smile while holding their medals , knowing the hard work and sacrifice it took for them to get there...is a high almost as intense as when you win yourself! Beyond just competitions, it’s also truly a joy to see someone’s life change for the better through our jiu-Jitsu. They become more confident, more comfortable around others, they demand more from life and from their body. Everyone knows a story of a white belt who lost weight and added years to their life but it’s even more inspiring when you see it happening in front of you. Thank you my students for allowing me to guide you on this journey. It is a privilege I do not take for granted and will always give you every ounce of energy that I got.
