Most people do not want to be on life support. Most people do not want extraordinary measures taken when they are at the end stages of life, and are in a terminal illness. Most people have stated in their living wills they do not want to be on a ventilator or use other artificial means of support. However, that was pre-Covid 19. On April 2, 2020, the Pennsylvania Department of State announced a temporary suspension of its statute requirement that notaries be physically present when witnessing signatures specifically in relation to certain estate planning documents. My entire business model is based on the concept of going to my clients. I go to nursing homes, I go to their homes, I meet in my office, or I'll meet them at Panera. I go where they are most comfortable. Unfortunately, that model is on hold for the near future. However, planning for the future cannot stop even though there are challenges with that as well. Miss Jay the supportive therapy basset was on hand for another visit to the skilled nursing facility. The amazing thing with pets and the elderly, or those with special needs, is that it really helps some people focus for a moment. A kiss from Miss Jay, or petting her, gives them something to concentrate on. I am by no means an expert in this area, nor is Miss Jay a trained therapy dog. But her visits have helped calm and focus individuals that I came to talk to and it’s a wonderful thing to watch. #therapybasset #elderlaw #saulinolaw
