S.O.S: Save our Smalls

Some Carlisle area businesses are contributing a portion of Saturday's sales to the fundraising efforts of GQ Barber Shop "Carlisle" for the families of those affected by last Saturday's tragedy. Take a look at the event page below for more details.

Awhile back, we purchased $300 worth of gift certificates for our SOS program from Kendell and Anthony of GQ Barber Shop "Carlisle" on a Saturday evening. They had just closed, and we passed a few moments speaking small business owner to small business owner about the struggles we'd gone through during 2020. We ended the conversation by sharing our hopes that 2021 would be better. I realized after I left that Saturday evening that I had forgotten to take our obligatory pho...to for the buy, and I kept forgetting to stop by to take one not realizing I would run out of time. It's such a tragedy that 2021 has gotten so much worse for the GQ family, and we send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Kendell Cook and our best wishes for a full recovery to Anthony White. Our good friends over at Cumberland Goodwill EMS had a very special ceremony yesterday to honor their EMTs who had saved lives this year using CPR or delivered newborns. We are lucky to have such dedicated frontline workers serving our community!

With your help and generosity, we were able to buy over $20K worth of gift certificates to local businesses and gift them to frontline workers and local charities. This community effort to help small businesses is nominated for Central Penn Business Journal's Nonprofit Innovation Awards, and the ceremony is this week. Wish us luck!

Today we visited Carlisle Borough Government with Destination Carlisle's Save Our Smalls program and gifted 90 gift cards from downtown Carlisle businesses to their employees for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, your funding of the S.O.S. program made a $300 donation of restaurant gift cards possible to Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and Perry Counties. Their vitally important organization has had extra expenses this year because they cannot prepare meals or house their clients in their facility, and gift cards to Issei Noodle, Hamilton Restaurant, Market Cross Pub & Brewery Carlisle, and ROOOSTERs will help with the cost of feeding their families. Diakon Senior Living - Cumberland Crossings employees were recently given the S.O.S: Save our Smalls gift cards that your donations purchased from downtown Carlisle businesses as part of our program. In total, 140 employees received $10 gift cards to downtown Carlisle restaurants and shops to thank them for their frontline work during COVID-19. Thank you, Carlisle, for making this possible! In a short while, we will be speaking with the Central Penn Business Journal about the S.O.S: Save our Smalls program and Destination Carlisle in support of our nomination for their Nonprofit Innovation Awards. We're honored to be recognized for the community's efforts to support small businesses in downtown Carlisle!

We stopped by the Carlisle Area Family Life Center today to drop off gift certificates to C-Luv Thrift and Bosler Memorial Library's Bookery to share with the young families they serve. Jackie was kind enough to give us a tour of their nonprofit. Did you know that they can give out over 5000 diapers a month for free to families in need?
