During your training journey, just because you are now setting clear and concise rules for your dog, and you’re now becoming the leader that your dog needs, doesn’t mean that you cannot have fun with them. Do I personally believe that dogs always need to be having fun? No, sometimes dogs have to be content with just being content. However, I think some people forget, especially when starting to really change their relationship and create boundaries, the importance of interac...ting with there dog in a playful way, and having a little bit of fun and enjoy their dog. There is a time and place for everything. Our next video with this pup goes through how to make his favorite game, tug, not just fun, but also a game that teaches many life skills. Rehomed after 10 years Owning a dog is not a hobby, and it’s not like owning a car that we can just trade up when convenient. It is a lifetime bond and commitment that you are making when you bring a dog into your house. This 10 year old GSD was rehomed after a decade because it was chasing ducklings and had high prey drive. Luckily, he found the two nicest, and committed owners, and quite honestly they hit the jackpot because he is a great dog. This also brings up the point that, before getting a dog, make sure you are aware of breed of dog and the requirements for that breed.

Stress will fuck you up, and your dogs too. For me, like a lot of other people, I’m always running around 24/7, and I absolutely love it. However, I need my long morning walk to think, decompress, and spend some quality time with my dogs and nature. This is what I need in order to be calm, have peace, and feel good. It looks different for everybody though. Some people need to have a coffee and read a book in the morning, some people need to work out at night. Whatever it is t...hat you need in order to stay calm, fulfilled, and happy, make sure you give it to yourself. The past 4-5 days, I haven’t found the time (such a stupid, stupid excuse) to give myself what I need, and good lord did I feel pent up. I could feel the stress pouring into other parts of my day. Put this in perspective for your dog. Dogs spend most of their life cooped up, whether it be in your house, a backyard etc. and they were bred for so much more. They need that something in order to feel fulfilled, to get rid of stress and anxiety, and to be happy. The secret is, it looks different for every dog. Your job is to find what your dog needs, and give it to them. When you wake up tomorrow, have fun and work your dog.

Dogs are much like men, they can’t do two things at once. If your dog is struggling with reactivity, go back to the basics and work on focus. They can’t react, while paying attention to you.

Hey guys! I have amazing news that I would love to share with you. Let me introduce you to our two new phenomenal trainers at Say It Once and @sayitonce_northeast_ohio First we have Emily, who is already an extremely talented, proven, and dedicated dog trainer. She brings years of experience to our team, and comes from a dog training background that will not just join Say It Once, but add a tremendous amount of knowledge and skill. Emily is going to move to Pittsburgh for ...3-4 months starting in July (which is amazing news for our Pittsburgh clientele) and then head back to Ohio and bring Say It Once Dog Training with her! The good news doesn’t stop there! I’m so excited to introduce Donna, who is exactly what this team needs. I worked with Donna five years ago (I had a baby face and braces when we met) and the behavior change she saw in her dog sparked her interest in reading and learning way more about dog behavior and training. This eventually lead to her transition from physical therapist to full time dog trainer. Her understanding, communication skills, and problem solving is exactly what we need, and what makes her such a great trainer! Donna is going to split time between training in Pittsburgh, and training in a yet to be released location down south

Hiking Group Class this Saturday at 9:30am at Burrell Lake Park. It’ll be a small class, and not a great class for non friendly dogs like our other classes. Only 12 spots! 1 hour, first 15 minutes will be leash drills on short lead, and then hiking around the park on long lines. It’ll be a good test and a good sweat! How our Group Classes work: Group classes are for existing clients only, as it gives us a chance to build on our already existing training. $35 for one dog, an...d $55 for two, cash or Venmo only.
