Since Friday when congress passed the Coronavirus stimulus package, we have been bombarded with phone calls. In an attempt to inform you all what we know, I am creating a list that may help answer your questions. 1) The IRS will NOT call you to get updated address or bank information. Scammers have already started scaring people and trying to get personal information this way. DO NOT give out personal information to someone claiming to work for the IRS or SSA. 2) Addresses an...d banking info being used to send people their stimulus checks are being pulled from your 2019 tax return, or your 2018 tax return if you have not filed for 2019 yet. 3) Low income people on social security DO NOT need to file a tax return to get their stimulus checks. The SSA already has their address. They also have their bank info if they currently receive their social security via direct deposit. 4) For those people that still typically file tax returns, but have not done so since 2017 or before, a change of address form can be sent to the IRS to update them (4-6 weeks to process the form). 5) In general the amounts of the stimulus checks will be $1,200 for single, $2,400 for married couples, and $500 for children 16 and under. 6) Dependents age 17 and over will not receive a stimulus check (for example college students still claimed on their parents returns). 7) The stimulus payments phase out for single people making $75,000 or more and $150,000 or more for married couples. Single people that make $99,000, and married couples making $198,000 or more will NOT receive a stimulus check. Here are some additional resources: The IRS address change form can be found here https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8822.pdf The IRS Coronavirus response page is here and should be updated with more informatrion in the coming days https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus I know this is a lot of information to take in, but right now we don't really know much more than most folks are hearing on the news. If you need help calculating your expected stimulus checks you can call the office, however the calculator is extremely helpful and only ask 3 questions. We hope everyone is well. Please stay safe and healthy everyone
