Amelia Earhart Day 11 January 2021 On 11 January 1935, Zontian and aviator Amelia Earhart began an 18-hour trip from Honolulu to Oakland, California, that made ...her the first person to fly solo across any part of the Pacific Ocean. Amelia joined the Zonta Club of Boston in 1928 and then became a member of the Zonta Club of New York in 1930. In 1939, two years after her disappearance, 4000 members of Zonta created a fellowship in her honour and was offered to women pursuing a PhD/doctoral degree in aeronautical engineering. At that time, the fellowship was $500 USD. Today up to 35 fellowships of $10,000 are offered each year. Interested in applying?
