""The reality is that transit is safe. The real danger transit faces is that the latest scientific evidence is not reaching our communities," says Will Herzog, Chair of the SEPTA YAC.

At SEPTA, we strive to be a catalyst for change and to be part of the solution. And as a provider of critical transportation services that keep our communities ...and communities connected, we feel strongly that racism has no place at SEPTA. That is why this year’s celebration of Juneteenth is more important than ever. Here in Philadelphia, Mayor Jim Kenney has designated #Juneteenth as an official City holiday for the first time ever - closing City offices and facilities in observance of June 19, 1865, the day that the last of America’s enslaved people were notified of their freedom, two years after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. At SEPTA, we will continue our regularly scheduled transit services, but we also encourage you to join us as we Educate, Celebrate, and Elevate this Juneteenth. There is no one way to celebrate. While the COVID-19 pandemic has limited some of the traditional Juneteenth celebrations, there are planned virtual and live events taking place across the City - including museum webinars, a food drive, a children’s march, a Black Lives Matter fashion protest, a car parade, a voter registration initiative, and more. WHYY shared a full rundown of events [https://whyy.org//how-philadelphia-is-celebrating-junetee/] and the Philadelphia Juneteenth Parade and Festival created a comprehensive guide [http://juneteenthphilly.org//Juneteenth-2020-How-to-celebr] on celebrating and supporting amidst COVID-19. #ISEPTAPHILLY #InItTogether

SEPTA announced today a partnership with the Black Doctors Covid19 Consortium (BDCC) to provide COVID-19 testing for employees. The BDCC is a volunteer group of... local doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals that has been providing free COVID-19 tests to communities in need throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The partnership with #SEPTA will allow the BDCC to devote additional resources to testing in communities that SEPTA serves. #ISEPTAPHILLY #InItTogether See more

The SEPTA YAC stands in support of our LGBT youth and young adult passengers and employees. The first pride at Stonewall Inn was a riot, and we are committed to the work ahead to fulfill the promise of inclusion for our BIPOC community. #MoreColorsMorePride #InItTogether
