Sewickley ATA Martial Arts 09.11.2020

I have been greatly moved and upset by the injustice in our society that has taken the lives of so many innocent people such as Trayvon Martin, Ahmaud Arbery, ...& most recently George Floyd (Amongst so many of the others). Throughout my life as a African American/Italian American/ Native American women...I have always been told, You are so pretty, you got lucky. With the implication that I got lucky because I was not too dark, but not too light and had beautiful hair. Why did I get lucky? Because I made you comfortable with my skin tone? Because I didn’t threaten you with my actions? Or that my features are just ethnically ambiguous as I’ve heard many times when getting casted to model or for a commercial. Or did I get lucky because I was raised to be kind under all circumstances, to see others for their character rather than the color of their skin, because giving love to someone over hate always conquers all, or by showing compassion for someone in their worst moment is defining your own character? So I am asking you to take a moment to, educate yourself and your children on other peoples way of life, different ethnicity’s , cultural backgrounds and norms, and to embrace them throughly.Surround our youth with all sorts of people, so when they grow up, they can be can kind, loving, and serve justice for all no matter the color of ones skin or heritage. Love & Kindness over ALL Share to spread the message

We wanted to give everyone an update on COVID-19 as it relates to our classes. We have been following the guidelines set forth for cleaning by the CDC and WHO. We have been deep cleaning everyday. All floor mats, hard floors, chairs, bathroom, light switches, front counter, etc. We have also been cleaning every pad after every use. We plan on continuing to be open and teaching classes. We will closely monitor the situation and follow the recommendations set forth by ATA HQ a...nd our local leaders. We will be doing things besides cleaning to help everyone stay healthy. -We are temporarily suspending all high fives, fist bumps, etc. We will be using thumbs ups, smiles, and and good old fashioned traditional bows. -We are limiting the amount of person to person to contact in class. -We ask that ALL students wash or sanitize their hands before they come onto to the mats. -Parents please keep your kids home if they are sick, or if you are sick. Due to our limited space (lobby), I would prefer for you to drop your child off or wait in the car. Please be back to pick your child up by the end of class. -Any coughs or sneezes need to be in your arm. If a student coughs or sneezes into their hand we will send them out to was their hands. If a student does not cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze will give them one reminder then send them out of class for the safety of the rest of the class. -Remember...not every cough is a Corona cough...Be cool. -This is a fluid situation and we will keep you posted on any changes. Thank you Josée Girard
