Always great to run into members of our police force from Sewickley Borough Police Department. Both Officer Miller and I were picking up lunch at the awesome The Bridgeside Market. Don’t forget to pick some of Leo’s Sunday Sauce!

This post is being shared from the Allegheny County Sheriff's office in regards to carrying a firearm and being stopped by the police. There are many misconceptions about what to do if you are pulled over and have a concealed weapon. These tips are helpful to aid those with concealed weapons permits. The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office wishes to pass along a few facts and tips to keep everyone, who is legally licensed to carry concealed, safe during encounters with law e...nforcement. By exercising these recommendations, we can assure the safety of all parties involved: In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, you are NOT legally required to inform law enforcement that you are carrying a firearm on your person or in your vehicle, but it is always considered a courtesy. Under no circumstance should you retrieve your firearm in an effort to present it to law enforcement. If your firearm is in the same location as your insurance or registration information (such as the glove compartment or console), it would be a good idea to verbally inform law enforcement before reaching for the documents, and then await instructions on how to retrieve them. It is also considered a courtesy to present your License to Carry a Firearm with your other documentation to law enforcement. Again, it is not required to do so, but it serves as a subtle way to communicate to the Officer that a firearm may be lawfully present. The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office hopes you find these suggestions helpful as it is our goal to do our part to keep everyone safe.

Today we learned that Mayor Brian Jeffe has decided to resign at the end of this year. Sewickley is losing a great Mayor who served the community of Sewickley selflessly. His leadership and dedication will be sorely missed.

**********ATTENTION SEWICKLEY RESIDENTS************ We would like to take a minute to share a couple tips to help keep you from being a victim when it comes to theft from vehicles. 1) Remember to lock your vehicles. ... It sounds so obvious but over 95% of theft reports we take are from vehicles that have been left unlocked. Thieves want in and out. If they have to work for it, they'll most likely move on to the next target rather than risk drawing attention to themselves by breaking in your vehicle. 2) Keep valuables out of your vehicle. If you are unlucky enough to be a victim, you can minimize your losses by keeping important items in your house or out of your car. This goes especially for cash. Cash is the most commonly targeted item. 3) Consider dusk-to-dawn or motion activated lighting. Anything that will draw attention to your vehicles during the night will make it less attractive to thieves. Vehicles that are parked under cover of darkness give thieves extra time to work without being noticed. 4) Consider video surveillance equipment. This type of a camera system or a video doorbell type of equipment to capture any scrupulous activity that may occur in or around your property and/or vehicles will greatly assist the Sewickley Police in identifying and prosecuting the perpetrator(s). In conclusion, we ask everyone to do what you can to keep from being a victim and remain vigilant. If you see or hear anything that just doesn't seem right or that looks suspicious, please call 911 and have it investigated right away. It just may be the break that solves the case.
