Today our Shenango Valley community came together to provide C'mas eve meals to almost 500 people in need, first responders, medical staff and police and fire employees. This joint effort, coordinated by the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce. was supported by donations from Mercer County Community Federal Credit Union; Sharon American Legion; City of Sharon Food Assistance Program & an anonymous donor. We served 478 meals and had 17 volunteer delivery drivers & their fami...lies, and utilized four locations to make the dinners which included Apollo Maennerchor Club, Sharon; Smoky Martin’s BBQ, Hermitage; Donna’s Diner, Sharon; and the Elks Club of Sharon. Every recipient also received a Daffin’s Candy bar and special holiday cards made by Sharon Robotics teams; First Presbyterian Church youth group in Sharon and Zion Education Center in Farrell. We delivered to almost 300 people in need in our Shenango Valley community; plus an additional almost 200 more meals to staff at UPMC Horizon Shenango Valley campus; Sharon Regional Medical Center; Med Express staff; Hermitage, Sharpsville, Sharon and Farrell PD; Sharon and Farrell Fire Departments; McGonigle Ambulance and Elite EMS and Joshua's Haven. Plus we were able to put more than $5000 back into the Shenango Valley restaurant community! It was an honor and privilege to see this group of volunteers and restaurants/clubs in the Shenango Valley come together and help provide some holiday cheer to our residents and our front line workers. <3 Never doubt the big hearts of the Shenango Valley! Or in the words of Margaret Mead: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." May everyone have a Merry Holiday Season and Peaceful New Year!
