Simon's Heart 30.12.2020

Is it too cliché to say "we made it!"? I cannot end the year without acknowledging your tenacity. You felt the side effects of a global pandemic. And, you showed up for Simon's Heart. - You showed up for families like those of Annie, Kai, Bodhi, and Sam. - You safely screened youth hearts through our free Pop Up Simon's Heart Screenings. - You taught CPR to thousands across the country through our virtual CPR Jukebox Marathons.... - You celebrated and remembered Simon's 16th Birthday. - You welcomed a new Executive Director & Roasted + Toasted Simon's Dad, Darren Sudman. I hope you will join me Thursday, February 25th, as we celebrate YOU in 2021 at Simon's Soirée. Cheers to a Happy New Year & to YOU for Protecting Hearts and Saving Lives. xo, Jenn + The Simon's Heart Team

Meet Billy Goldberg. The writer of The Heart-Centered Leader and friend who is matching every dollar donated through the end of the year. The Heart-Centered Leader is a book for executives, business owners, and leaders across the spectrum that want to connect with what really matters and see the results that come from leading with one's heart. If mindfulness is about leaders getting quiet to think about why they do what they do, then heartfulness is about how they go about... doing it. Please help us thank Billy by making a donation through Facebook or at bit.ly/EOYdonation Learn more about The Heart-Centered Leader here bit.ly/BillyGWriting

She was 19 years old and dying. Annie was at Wawa with her mom when she collapsed. Two Lower Merion Township Police Officers jumped into action. Without their action of CPR and using the AED in their patrol car, Annie would not be with us. "In 2011, I started to have seizures. I went to multiple doctors and had dozens of EEGs but nobody could figure out why I was having them or how to stop them. I went through high school and the beginning of college not knowing when or if I ...would fall into an episode. Annie has a heart condition called Long QT Syndrome which can cause sudden cardiac arrest. "My heart condition was disguised as a seizure disorder. In many cases, a person has no idea they have this condition until it’s too late. And it almost was for me." Since February 12th, 2016, Annie has graduated cum laude from Drexel University where she double-majored in Business Analytics and Marketing. She currently works at DuPont and continues to support Simon's Heart. Every dollar donated through the end of the year is being matched by Billy Goldberg. Please, help us place more AED devices, screen more teens, and teach CPR by contributing to our End of Year Campaign through Facebook or our website: bit.ly/EOYdonation

"Hey, Wilma, Kai has collapsed, and it doesn't look good. Where are you, can you get to school." Wilma, a mother of 2 boys has always prided herself on protecting her boys. To look out for dangers and help them in any and all ways. Sudden Cardiac Arrest was the one thing she could not protect her youngest from. On February 9th, 2017, Wilma was on her way home from Columbus, Ohio when her phone rang. It was her youngest son's coach, Andrew McDowell, with a message that still h...aunts her. Andrew proceeded to tell her that Kai collapsed. He had no pulse, no heartbeat, and was not breathing. While 1 athletic trainer started CPR, another called 911 and got the AED. After 4 minutes of CPR and a shock, he had a pulse. Kai, now on his way to the hospital while Wilma, rushed to his bedside. 2 weeks later, Kai played in the final game of the season. 3 years later, he and Wilma have donated 10 AEDs. Kai graduated with honor roll and is now a sophomore at Butler University majoring in sports psychology. He's a manager for the team and continues to help others with the sport he loves. "We may never know how high he would have gone in basketball, but we know he will continue to make a difference for many, on and off the court." Today is Giving Tuesday. Every dollar donated through Facebook and our website is being matched by Billy Goldberg. bit.ly/EOYdonation Please help us raise money for AEDs, CPR education, and to prevent more parents from receiving that phone call which Wilma will never forget.
