"Slovakia matters, its success matters, its future matters!" Thank you, Madam Ambassador, for your words and service.

The Slovak Heritage Festival 01.05.2022

#OTD 93 years ago, a great Slovak inventor, architect and Roman Catholic or "Radio Priest" - Jozef Murgaš died in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. While in the Unite...d States, he established his interest in engineering and ultimately developed a system contributing to the improvement of radiotelegraphy through distinguishing signals by frequency instead of length. On May 10, 1904, Murgaš was granted his first two U.S. patents - the Apparatus for wireless telegraphy and The way of transmitted messages by wireless telegraphy. His work was acknowledged by Thomas Edison and Guglielmo Marconi and aided in the creation of the modern-day communication system. As an active member of the Slovak-American society, he directly participated in the founding of the first independent Czechoslovak state. Murgaš is another example of how fruitful the connections between Slovakia and the United States have been throughout the long years of friendship and he is a well-deserved point of pride for both of our countries. His contributions have a lasting impact on the world today and his life was also an example of great things that can develop from free societies supporting science, ideas and creativity. #ScienceIsAwesome - let's trust it. #GoodIdeaSlovakia

After Pennsylvania, the state of Ohio holds the record for the most people of Slovak ancestry in America. That is a fact most festival regulars would not be surprised to hear because of all the Slovak Ohioans who make the long drive out to the festival every year. In honor of them you’ll be able to watch The Lúina Slovak Folklore Ensemble of greater Cleveland on Sunday. Don’t miss them! @lucinaslovakFS Do you live in a State other than Pennsylvania or Ohio?
