Online payments juggernaut PayPal Inc. has joined a growing chorus asking the Small Business Administration to automatically forgive all Paycheck Protection Program loans below a certain amount. While the SBA has taken action to simplify the loan-forgiveness process, Congress is hearing from constituents that the process is still complicated, difficult to understand and time-consuming, the company wrote in a July 17 email to loan recipients obtained by American City Busine...ss Journals, the parent company of The Business Journals. In the email, PayPal specifically highlighted potential legislation in Congress that would automatically forgive all loans under $150,000. When asked for further comment, Doug Bland, PayPal senior vice president of global credit, said in an email that while the company was pleased the SBA was making loan forgiveness as simple as possible, there were still gaps in its guidance. As Congress considers proposals for automatic loan forgiveness for PPP loans below a certain dollar amount, we feel it is in our small business customers’ best interest to ensure their voices are heard with their representatives regarding the loan forgiveness process," Bland said. The action comes as borrowers are asking their bankers about loan forgiveness, seeking clarity on the subject. Business owners could be about to hit new financial challenges as their PPP funding runs out, as well. Also: Did PPP shut out minority entrepreneurs? Here’s why the SBA can’t say.
