You never know what critters you'll find near your pond ... This baby snapping turtle was hanging out behind our store. Here are some fun facts about this prehistoric-looking little guy: Snapping turtles are NOT the kind of turtles you'd want to keep for a pet in most backyard ponds. They eat fish, grow huge and have a nasty reputation of hissing and biting when confronted. ... Adult Common Snapping Turtles can grow up to 20 inches long and weigh up to 35 pounds. Scientists estimate they could live more than 100 years. Snapping Turtles play an important role in wild aquatic ecosystems by scavenging dead plants and animals, but they also hunt for fish, frogs and other small animals.
