The Jackson House Hotel was an important landmark that pointed to Harrisburg's Black history in our community. We created the mural to commemorate this historic place and the Black luminaries who moved through it. We love Cesar's work and are certainly sad to see it go, but we also understand that murals are ephemeral in nature. We're so proud that we had the opportunity to celebrate the Jackson House Hotel and its guests. A sincere thanks to the volunteers who helped us crea...te it! -Meg To find out more about the building's history, visit the www.sprocketmuralworks.com/jacksonhouse Photos (in order) @elenajasic @seansimmers @danifreakinfresh @seansimmers @halebot @theburgnews

If you've made your way past Jackson House lately, you may have noticed that it looks like the building is in the process of falling down. Sadly, this important physical remnant of Black history in Harrisburg has been deteriorating for decades. There is a glimmer of good news: The demolition crew hopes to save the front façade and the mural wall. No matter what happens, we do have plans to add a new mural to celebrate Black lives as part of the 2021 Harrisburg Mural Festival. If you can, donate today to help make sure communicty projects like this happen in 2021.
