I started my career with Select Specialty Hospital -- Harrisburg in 2008 as a PRN nightshift nurse. Working for Select has been so rewarding. We specialize in caring for chronically, critically ill patients. We get to see the amazing progress they make, especially those who need longer stays for vent liberation or wound care. This challenging work environment allowed me to grow and become the confident, competent nurse I am today. Select offers so many opportunities for grow...th. I became nightshift house supervisor, then moved into the nurse manger position. Now, I have taken the CNO position at Select Specialty Hospital -- York. Select is even paying for me to return to school this fall for my BSN. My goal is to develop a superior team of caregivers who, in turn, provide exceptional patient care. We have the potential to make such a significant impact on their recovery; let’s make it happen! See more

During Hospital Week, we’re kicking-off a new series spotlighting team members in our critical illness recovery and inpatient rehabilitation hospitals. These professionals often work behind the scenes, but provide care that is essential to patient recovery. Our first video focuses on pharmacy teams and the clinical expertise they provide to our hospitals and patients. #hospitalweek2022

I couldn’t imagine being anything other than a nurse. It’s not just a career -- it’s a calling and passion. I worked as a CNA directly out of high school. My career goals were constantly in flux and I found that I truly loved providing patient care. It gave me a sense of purpose, of being part of something so much bigger than myself. With encouragement from my family and the nurses I worked with, I went to nursing school. I was the first new grad at Select Specialty Hosp...ital -- Quad Cities. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be the CNO 14 years later. My passion for the profession has shifted over time. While safe patient care still drives me each and every day (or night), growing my team and creating a culture that recognizes and rewards greatness fills my bucket. Select has allowed me to grow professionally and personally with the many opportunities I have been afforded. I was awarded the RN to BSN scholarship in 2016. The same year, I had the opportunity to step into the DQM position. In 2020, I became CNO. I love that Select promotes growth within the company and celebrates success at every level.

This Nurses Week, I am thankful to work with such an amazing group of colleagues. The Regional CNO team is the most supportive group of peers I have ever encountered. It's possible because I was given the opportunity to work my way through Select Medical's advancement program. It provided me with such valuable perspectives from new graduate nurse to Regional CNO it's been the journey of a lifetime. I am so grateful to be a part of this organization in every way.

Select Medical's care continuum offers stroke survivors and families treatment options that support optimal healing and recovery. Critical illness recovery hospitals provide round-the-clock medical monitoring and early therapy. Mobility and ventilator liberation programs, coma emergence protocols and targeted physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapy prepare patients for an inpatient rehabilitation hospital. According to the American Heart Association and America...n Stroke Association, stroke survivors who choose an inpatient rehabilitation hospital have greater improvement, fewer complications and are able to return home sooner than those treated at nursing facilities or other settings. Our inpatient rehabilitation hospitals provide highly individualized, carefully integrated stroke care programs that have been shown to make the difference in patients’ outcomes.
