St. Paul AME church of Bellefonte PA, a historic church that was part of the Underground Railroad, is raising money for a new furnace. This is a social justice ...oriented church with a wonderful pastor, Rev. Dr. Donna King. Please consider donating and sharing this link with others: https://gf.me/u/y8mg63. Every little bit helps! On July 5th, 1852, Frederick Douglass captivated his audience at Corinthian Hall in Rochester, New York with one of the most powerful antislavery orations ever delivered, What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July? The Lantern Lecture Series highlights the historical significance of many people like Frederick Douglass in Bellefonte, PA. Yesterday AME’s zoom service included space for people to share their pain and struggle for social justice in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd. This is just one example of building on the 161 years of history of the church’s call to put our faith in action and stand and be counted for racial justice. Songs of protest and social change were presented at a recent Pedagogy and Theater of the Oppressed, which included songs about the Underground Railroad, Irish liberat...ion songs, protest songs of Chile, and Which Side Are You On? from the union work in Central Appalachia. We plan to do the presentation again at St Paul AME church in the Fall.
