Coming soon! The youth that make up Stay True have been working to address the systems of oppression that permeate their community and their lives. This year, their work will culminate in a documentary series about growing up in Philadelphia. Catch a glimpse of what they’ve been working on!

One of the greatest things you can do to help others is not just to share and give what you have, but to help them discover what they have within themselves to help themselves RITA ZAHARA

Stay True 07.07.2020

To Our Community, We want to thank you all for the support that we've been seeing for Stay True and for the incredible amount of support given to all of the local organizations working to build up Philadelphia's most impacted communities. Continuing to lift the voices of our most underrepresented communities is imperative to facilitating substantial and sustainable change. We also want to update you about what Stay True's plans look like for the future. We are thrilled to a...nnounce that our 2020 program will go on. However, this year will look very different than in previous years. Stay True's summer program is exceptionally vigorous. The average week sees our students volunteering at: Philabundance, Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia, Keep Royal Gardens Beautiful, PSPCA, The Block Gives Back, organizing park and street cleanups, aiding in food drives, participating in social justice and conflict resolution workshops and, learning photography with Philly Photo Studio- the list goes on and on. We aim to expose and educate our students about a wide variety of social issues affecting Philadelphia. Our youth witness and participate in the tremendous work that their community members are doing. Our students then design their own service projects combining what they have learned through this process. As many of our followers have seen, our students have done incredible things. From painting the Heart of the City Mural on Amber and Alleghany Avenue, repairing Scanlon playground, organizing canned food drives, and hosting poetry events at Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse to address violence and inequality, our students have tackled an extensive range of topics. We are by no means planning on slowing down, but with the impact of COVID-19, we are reformatting to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and volunteers. With all that's happening in our communities today, we recognize how critical it is to give our students a safe space to speak and be heard. As always, we are committed to providing a platform for our youth to voice their concerns about current events, allowing them to share their unique perspectives. Ideally, beginning the week of 6/29, we will be able to reconvene either physically or virtually (we are aiming to provide our members who do not have access to adequate technology with tablets so that they can stay connected virtually). Though we will continue volunteering with other organizations where we can, our students will decide the trajectory of this year's program. Over the next six months, they will listen, speak, document, and share their stories. They will formulate their methods to offer aid during this time. These students throughout the years have proven time and time again that they are powerful agents of change. Please listen, watch, share, and show your support for them as they rise to these challenges. We thank you all so much, Stay True
