Thanks to the PECO team for driving Santa around the St. Christopher's Hospital campus this week. Employees from the Luzerne Service Building in North Philadelphia, escorted by the Philadelphia Police Department, lifted Santa in a bucket truck to wave to patients. Thanks to Kelly's Kidz and Michael Saulino and Matt Marino, owners of Blue Bell-based The Artisan Group - Compass RE. Michael and Matt collected over 1,000 toys for Candy Cane Corner which were distributed to inpatients and outpatients. Thank you for your generosity and kindness. Happy Holidays!

Congratulations to Renee Turchi, MD, MPH, FAAP, Medical Director of the PA Medical Home Program and an engaged member of the PA Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics, who recently received the following award, presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics Annual Leadership Forum: American Academy of Pediatrics Outstanding Chapter Award Unsung Heroes - Council on Children with Disabilities... We are so proud to acknowledge her award and continued investment in providing the best quality of care and leadership to her patients, families, and colleagues!

Congratulations to Dr. Inga Friederike Strelow, Pediatric Critical Care Fellow. She received Third Place in the Competition for the Outstanding Clinical Resident/Fellow Poster Discovery Day 2020 titled, "A Predictor of Mortality in Pediatric Trauma Patients: Lactate Plus the Novel VVR Score" (Authors: Friederike Strelow, Christopher Pennell, Autumn Nanassy, Amit Misra, Stephen Aronoff, and Vicki Mahan).

Meet Khloe, American Kidney Fund 2021 Calendar Cover Artist. Khloe is a fifth grader from Woodbine, NJ, and a dialysis patient here at St. Chris on the kidney transplant waiting list. Khloe's artwork, Kidneys & Flowers, received the most votes from the public during this year's American Kidney Fund Calendar contest. Her artwork reflects her journey to get on the transplant waiting list and her hope that enough kidneys will grow so everyone on the list will be able to get the life-saving transplants they need. #giftoflifefamilyhouse

Megan Stevens held an Usborne Book sale with the proceeds benefitting St. Chris. Through this sale, Megan was able to donate more than 50 books and activity books to the Oncology and the Pediatric Intensive Care units.

A special thanks to Dr. Robert Koenigsberg from Radiology for arranging 40 employee photo cut outs to be displayed at the Philadelphia Phillies games.

On Sunday, October 11, the National Kidney Foundation will hold its annual walk virtually. The dialysis patients of St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, along with the staff, participated in a mini walk outside of the hospital today. The young dialysis patients spend many hours on dialysis. Additional hospital staff came out to show their support.

Our Light In The Dark With Coronavirus cases continuing to rise everywhere, this message is dedicated to all of the brave healthcare heroes, our front liners who are on a daily basis, putting their own lives at risk to save others. I want to say a million thank you's for what you do every minute of every day. I can only imagine the sacrifices you have made and continue to make being away from your families, your devotion throughout this pandemic is just utterly amazing. Your... strength, selflessness, bravery & endurance are all absolutely and truly admirable. The heavy burdens you carry from seeing patients lose the battle against this wretched virus, your faith and spirit must be boundless. The tolerance you have towards the citizens who all refuse to take this pandemic, this crisis seriously, WOW....you all deserve medals for that alone. All of you are absolutely the VERY best of us, true inspirations & heroes. Though you are worn out, weary, exhausted, and at times just break down and cry, always remember this, that all of you are without a shadow of a doubt, WARRIORS. Although I feel as if it is just not enough to just say "thank you for your service", for perhaps they ring like empty words to you by now because so many of us say it. However, this Texan means them with every fiber of my being. I have always worn my mask from the beginning and washed my hands and social distanced (as best as possible). I only wish I could do more for you all, from surgeons to X-Ray techs, and everyone else in between (I have a friend who works as a nurse at a very large & well known hospital). All I can do though I send my positive vibes & thoughts, my prayers, air hugs, and love to every one of you. May this lift up all of your hearts & spirits, this goes for all first responders too. You are so very deeply appreciated by many. All of you stand as our shining light in the dark. I genuinely hope that this message has blessed you all. Rebekah Bowden
