Imperfect Circumstances Hello Friends, Many years ago, I had a horse. One of my fondest memories was waking up early on Christmas morning and heading to my neighbor’s house to take care of him before I got to open all my presents. Now, this wasn’t a pristine boarding facility with lights, cemented floors and rows of stall doors where horses slept. Instead, it was a falling down barn with broken windows, a dirt floor and the occasional leak in the roof with just my one hors...e and his cow friend, Merry. Still, I enjoyed this Christmas feeding so much! The air was usually crisp, the sky lit with stars and there was always a magical feel. Visiting the barn on Christmas morning also reminded me of what it must have been like for Mary. A dirt floor, straw all over the ground, and animals surrounding her (which might have been a little frightening). These were defiantly imperfect circumstances for the birth of a child. She was not surrounded by other women to walk her through the birthing process. She had no comfy bed to lay on and I am sure Joseph had no idea how to help her. I am certain the picture was nothing like the nativity scene we see this time of year. Even with these imperfect circumstances, Jesus was born. God sent Jesus to give us salvation. Without this hope, we really have nothing. We have no motivation and nothing to believe to excel us during the good times. Through the hope we received from the birth of Jesus we can face life’s hardships. Many people are facing hardships this Christmas season whether it be physically, mentally, or spiritually. If you aren’t one of these people deeply effected by our current circumstances reach, out to those around you. Buy an extra can of food to donate, drop off an old coat for someone in need, or spend your Saturday at P.A.L. All of these things give hope to someone who needs it regardless of the time of year. This year Christmas won’t be perfect. We are definitely traveling through some imperfect circumstances, but we are all able to share a little hope with one another. -Jennifer Sterling
