Bill Would Provide Lifeline to PA Hospitality Industry When the new legislative session begins in January, I am co-sponsoring legislation to save our hospitalit...y industry from the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and mitigation efforts. For the past nine months, the hospitality industry has been the most impacted by the crisis. From the initial shutdown and ensuing mitigation measures, it is clear this industry will not survive without our help. Before the pandemic hit, the industry employed more than 550,000 Pennsylvanians. Since then, mitigation efforts have resulted in massive layoffs. Often these are small businesses competing against large chains that have been better able to withstand the economic challenges by relying on takeout. Many local restaurateurs have no such options and are facing complete and permanent closures. The hospitality and tourism industry and the jobs they provide are vital to our economy and worthy of our support. Therefore, together with my House colleagues from Bucks County, I am introducing legislation to establish hospitality industry recovery grants. This program would dedicate $500 million in forthcoming federal assistance for COVID relief to grants that can be used to bring this once vibrant industry back to life when this crisis passes.
