The museum has reopened! New cases, new exhibits. Come visit us Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Because of the University's schedule, class use, and staff obligations, it's always a good idea to verify that we're going to be open if you're planning on traveling to Pittsburgh. Something exciting is happening! We'll be closed starting today for at least two weeks while we redo our exhibits.

We are pleased to announce that 19th Century portraits of Stephen Foster's parents, Eliza Clayland Tomlinson Foster and William Barclay Foster, are finally back in Pittsburgh! These images were painted from life in the 19th century and were, for a time, on display at the Foster memorial home, a museum operated by the city of Pittsburgh in the early 20th century. They have since been with Foster family descendants. Thanks to an anonymous donor, they will be on display in our collection once some preservation concerns are addressed.

A belated Happy Birthday to Stephen Foster! Celebrate the anniversary of one of America's great songwriters this Friday at 7:00 PM at Doo Dah Nights, an evening of music, square dancing, food, and rinks to support the Lawrenceville Historical Society. http://doodahdays.com/

The Center for American Music isn't just about Stephen Foster. This week we prepared an exhibit of materials from our Ethelbert Nevin Collection for scholars attending the Willa Cather conference. The exhibit, which was held in the University's Special Collections reading room, highlighted items related to Nevin and Cather's friendship.
