How about a throw back.... um... Wednesday? Pictured below is Summit member Vincent being forced by a very pregnant Hannah and a very sweaty Sean to hold his winning plaque from his kickboxing exhibition with the Proving Ground series out of Jamestown, NY. This was at our old location nearly two years ago now! Oh how far we have all come. We are happy to be settling in to our "newish" downtown location and being able to welcome some new faces lately! We have some signage for the door on it's way! Cheers to progress!
First class of October, here. We. COME! #cardio #conditioning #striking
We are back from a much needed vacation and ready to hit the gym! Can't wait to see everyone Tuesday and Thursday of this week for some punching and kicking and stuff! . . #cyberneticorganismsneedvacationstoo... #takecareofyourmeatsuit #restweek See more
Sean and Hannah will be out of the gym this coming week! This comes at a good time for our members who have been PUSHING their balance and flexibility lately, and could use a straight week to let their muscles settle in. Rest is part of the program after all! We already can't wait to be back on the mats September 29th.
'Bout time we got with the program! Check us out on instagram, website coming soon!
We have been practicing a lot of response drills in class lately! So many technical kickboxing classes are comprised of hitting mitts, and we have to agree there is nothing quite as satisfying as hearing that smack when you hit just right! But... what happens when you are in competition or (hopefully never!) a real life situation and the "mitts" hit you back? This is why we love to do drills where both partners offer a give and take style of combination so that when you are...n't throwing punches, you can be practicing your dodge and counter strike. These can be done without any contact at all for those wanting to practice the moves without getting too accurate of a simulation ;) Hit (ha, see what I did there?) us to up learn more and hop in to give it a try!! :D
We are stoked to announce that we are welcoming new members going into this fall season! Have you always wanted to try kickboxing? Tired of workouts that feel like... work? Want to walk away with a new skill in the toolbox rather than praying that time ticks away the calories while you struggle through minutes of cardio?... Wondering if our class is for you? It is. We have had students ranging from teenagers to folks into their sixties. We train fighters and hobbyists alike, and offer a class format suitable for beginners but challenging for experts. We could talk martial arts all day, give us a message for more information about membership and trying a class for free! Located in downtown Warren, conveniently about the delicious Total Evolution - Cafe!
It's here! We are excited to announce our new name and look to go with it! We are proud to say, we are now going to be the full time tenants above our awesome neighbors at Total Evolution - Cafe and Smoothie Lounge! It has always felt like home, while we are going to be officially setting down "roots" for our club here downtown, we will still be available to teach seminars at different locations and for different organizations as we had previously. :) We are excited to take ...off our coats and stay awhile, and expand our offerings a bit in the Warren area! What we do itself isn't changing. We are still teaching technical kickboxing, mixed martial arts, and self-defense skills to anyone who would like to work and learn! Message us for information on membership rates and class times! . As always, thank you for the amazing support of our friends, neighbors, and loyal members. We are blessed with an awesome crew that we are proud to call "Fight Family". See more
Breaking through plateaus every Tuesday and Thursday!! Just like Bruce says in the quote below, limiting ourselves physically has a domino effect in our lives- and can lead to us feeling stale in many areas of life. Luckily, breaking through a physical plateau often has that same domino effect, to a more positive end! . Tuesday we worked on setting up and executing clinching and knee combinations. These are extremely useful for self-defense scenarios, (they dont hurt the c...ardio either!). Did you know throwing a proper knee is one of the most practical, valuable, and effective self-defense techniques for a beginner to learn? They are relatively easy to learn to throw well, they are "short" and direct, leaving less room for innacuracy, and they are also one of the most devastating techniques when done correctly. Lotta damage to your attacker, little effort to execute or knowledge to maintain. We are still working on our big announcement, stay tuned for more info!
We have some big changes on the way, and some exciting announcements to make!! Stay tuned!
Members- Don't forget, Thursday night is our first class back in action! We can't wait to see you all at 5:30pm to shake off the rust!
Get Ready all!! We are BACK starting in July!! Classes are Tuesday and Thursday evenings, send us a message for information on times and membership options! :D :D :D
Being isolated is no excuse not to stay loose.
#Determination! Been reflecting on this a lot lately. Some days you just don't feel like you are in the head space to train.. maybe you had a long day at work, maybe other life stresses are working on your brain. Getting to class and doing some drills on the off days, or (more appropriate to our present day) strapping on those shoes and getting outside for some jump roping and bodyweight exercises pushes your threshold for "mind over matter" a little bit further in the direction of perseverance and mental strength. Training the mind and the spirit is just as important as the body... perhaps even a little bit more important. Don't underestimate #mindgains
Happy Easter Everyone! We miss you, and can't wait until we can train together again!
Some great examples of at home exercises we can do to stay in fighting shape! There are a few video links to show form, some are a bit different than what we are used to, but all are a great way to keep the blood flowing!
Hey all! We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. We will continue to remain closed until all of the CDC and state recommendations for quarantine and social distancing have been lifted. We will be posting some interesting tidbits and fitness challenges for April though, so stay tuned and don't be afraid to share what you have been doing this month to stay active! This is a great time to focus on flexibility training, cardio, and technical drills- you can absolutely do these while practicing safe social distancing! We sure don't plan to come out of this too rusty ;) Once more, stay safe and keep those guards up. <3
Lovingly shared by one of our talented students
Daydreaming of training? Us too- see you in class tonight at 5:30!

Happy Valentines Day!!! <3
We spent a lot of time adding to our technical toolbox last night in class, by doing some balancing drills coupled with 6 different kick types and their variations. We can't wait to see everyone put it together in movement with combos later!
Great job to Drew Paulik for his unanimous exhibition boxing victory against his hard hitting opponent last night! These two sportsmen went on to grapple later on the card, where Drew won via submission 2 minutes in. Great job gentlemen, and well done Drew!!
Class cancelled tonight! Stay warm and dry, enjoy a rest day! ;)Class cancelled tonight! Stay warm and dry, enjoy a rest day! ;)
Learning a new skill means stepping out of your comfort zone! Did you know it is impossible to grow if you don't make yourself a little uncomfortable sometimes? When was the last time you were okay with being new at something?
This! It's why those first few drill attempts shouldn't be sloppy- your building your foundation! Make it sturdy.
Stay warm, stay loose, its kickboxing night!
Its #trainingtuesday!! Get ready for some striking combos and movement drills to get the heart pumping, tonight at 5:30! Sweating is better with friends... let's hit stuff.
Tired of the same old workout, and just moving for the sake of sweating? How about a change of perspective?
We want to close the book on 2019 by doing our annual "Student of the Year" reflection! We were so lucky in 2019 to have trained with an awesome variety of people, some new and some old friends. When you have the good fortune to work out with such an awesome laid back group of hard working people, it is really hard to choose just one for our Student of the Year. Elaine Nicholson Robbins though, made the cut. Elaine used to train years ago, she found us last year and decided t...Continue reading
Has anyone else been working on their resolutions? We love us a fresh start!
And to all a good night! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your loved ones! Merry Kickmas!
We love to see women getting gloved up and hitting some stuff! This group in central NY gets it done! Say hi to our friends at the Brojo, ending the week with a bang!
Not a fan of the white stuff? Come channel your rage! Kickboxing/MMA at 5:30pm in Warren!
Awesome news for our members! A great way to get the energy you need to train and reach a fitness goal (cough...or make weight....), when you don't have time to prep at home and a busy week at work and the gym! This discount comes at an already reasonable and customizable price!
"Combat sports, boxing, in particular, has been plagued over many years by medical controversy, in particular, head/brain injuries. It’s important to remember while spectating, that these fighters are trained to not get hit. The goal of getting in the ring with another boxer is not to get punched in the face, but rather to dodge those blows defensively and prevent the opponent from gaining points." Great read
Thank you Veterans!
Just a reminder to all members that there will be no class this evening! Rest up, we will resume at the normal time on Thursday!
Join us all September long for an Arm/Leg bodyweight conditioning challenge! Push your limits and grow with us as we strive to build our strength and endurance through bodyweight conditioning in an effort to improve our martial arts technique. Even if you don't practice combat sports, you still have a lot to gain from this challenge and we would love you to join us in this online event, daily in September. See the pinned post in the event discussion for the workouts, save the picture for your reference!
I'm often asked how to get the most out of class! This article breaks it down quite well. Asking questions is absolutely key, going through the motions might get you in shape physically, but the mental aspect of training requires an understanding of why we do what we are doing, and how to apply it to a real life situation (be it self defense or the ring/cage competitively). Students are also often daunted at the idea of training with students more advanced than they are, or ...apologetic when paired with an advanced student, as if they are somehow costing the advanced student or limiting their workout- never feel this way!! It's important to remember, we were all beginners once, and advanced martial artists will be able to practice drills effectively regardless of their partner (for example, speed instead of power, in the air vs pads, control and balance, etc). Chances are the instructor will give them certain aspects to work on individually as they drill anyway. Enrolling in a combat sports class is an individual endeavor in many ways, with personal goals and achievements being the milestones by which we measure our growth. However, a group setting where novice and more advanced students learn together allows for a team atmosphere where each student can get the most out of their training time, and enjoy the company of others on a similar journey.
We would have to add physical coordination to this list of ways martial arts can lengthen the attention span! Over the past couple of months we have been doing some longer combos and drills that not only call for a clean technique and memorization of the steps required to complete the drill, but also coordinating controlled breathing and reaction time. 9 out of 10 students comment on how cerebral and mentally challenging they find combat sports to be, and how surprising that was to them as a beginner. Many of us say we are thankful for that, because when you are concentrating so hard on the task at hand you forget you are working out so hard! Mental and physical, if it doesn't challenge you, it sure won't change you.
Summer has been treating us well! It's been warm in the gyms but it's been great to get the sweat flowing. Pic from an early morning Sunday live session a couple weeks ago. We hope everyone is enjoying their summer as much as we have been! Class at 5:30!
Taken down? How about a pick me up?
A very happy 4th of July to all our friends and families! There's no class tonight, we hope everyone has a safe, fun, and memorable summer holiday! We will hit some more stuff next week!
A huge congratulations to our Summer Push-up Challenge winner, Elaine Nicholson Robbins!!! The challenge began at the beginning of the month with each unsuspecting (no sandbagging here!) student doing as many pushups as they could in one minute (only the "good" push-ups count toward the total! ), and then, at the end of the month they were asked to do it again. The most improved participant would win! Elaine smashed her first total, improving her number of push-ups by nearly... 20! Congratulations girl! Enjoy the night at the movies on us!!
Announcing the winner of the Self-defense workshop door prize drawing: Calla Pence! Congrats girl you won a $20.00 gift certificate to our downstairs neighbor Total Evolution - Cafe and Smoothie Lounge! Thanks to Calla and everyone who came to support our first self-defense workshop! :)
TYSON FURY: A year ago I was 400lbs and in terrible shape. Two-and-a-half years out of the ring, I fought back from suicide, mental health, anxiety, I wanted more than anything to show the world that it can be done. Anything’s possible with the right mindset.
Let's hear it for the girls who hit hard, and the girls who do all these things!
We are stoked for this weekend's informative and interactive self-defense workshop! Take an hour and a half of your time to learn some truly valuable techniques that you can take with you for the rest of your life. Message us to register!
In an effort to push ourselves and gauge our progress this summer, members began the month of June by diving into a push-up challenge! Bodyweight exercises are some of the most valuable to martial arts conditioning, and push-ups can really help us develop the power in our punches! Students were instructed to do as many push-ups as they could in one minute, and after numbers were recorded they were told they would be given the same instructions in the last class of the month- ...and the most improved student will be awarded a prize to celebrate their progress! Its not about doing the most, its about doing more than you previously could have! Stay tuned to hear the winner of our summer contest! :)
"Self-defense calls greatness out of women and empowers them to be more than what they think they can be." Only 3 of the MANY reasons!
Mark your calendar for our self-defense workshop! Scheduled for the morning on June 22nd, we will be all done before you have to make it to that graduation party or summer cookout, and you will have knowledge that could one day prove indispensable! School may be out but that doesn't mean you can't still learn something, invest in yourself and a safer more confident future!
