Honeybees make beeswax to build the honeycomb structure that their home is made out of. It is produced from their abdomen and gathered to form the perfect cell.... The cells are used to house eggs and store nectar and honey. Fun Fact: Beeswax can come in a variety of colors. It can be white, brownish black, yellow, red, or orange. This is due to the range of different pollen oils and propolis in it. Do you know how beeswax is made? When a worker bee is between 10 to 16 days old it has special wax producing glands that are finally mature. When the bees eat honey it is converted into wax and secreted from the small slits on a bee’s abdomen. Fun Fact: On average a hive has to eat about 6 to 8 pounds of honey to make just one pound of wax.

Google chose to be a voice for the bees on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day! Don't forget our pollinators play a vital role on our planet. You can thank them for helping to produce about 1/3 of the food you eat. Happy Earth Day!
