Lately, we have been getting more calls for Couples Yoga classes. Since I teach at my home studio, I have decided for the safety of my family to not allow students into our home. The yoga space during the day is used by my family. During normal times, it is quite time consuming to clean and then transform the space into a romantic couples yoga space. I spend a few hours preparing both the inside and outside. I actually spend more time getting the space prepared the...n I actually spend teaching the class. A huge part of the romantic couples yoga classes is the actual atmosphere and space. I have spent almost a decade carefully curating the right music and playlists. I have Hindu tapestries that friends brought me from Nepal. I have special scent candles so that the space smells beautiful. Since during the day, my son uses the space to play in, when I decorate for couples yoga, I actually hide most of his toys and kid decorations. It's a huge space so it takes a long time to clean the floor and entrance to the studio. Since it is a very intimate environment I am creating for couples, I don’t know how comfortable I would feel requiring them to wear masks. If couples, refused how would I kick them out? When couples have to use the bathroom, it’s actually the bathroom that my family uses and I would have to spend an even longer time sanitizing before and after to ensure cleanliness. I have taught probably almost 1,000 couples over the last 10 years so I have more experience teaching beginner couples yoga than anyone else I can think of. (There are tons of teachers that teach the more challenging acrobatic yoga which requires the students to be more athletic and coordinated but I have yet to find another teacher that specializes in unathletic yoga virgins like I do.) I have a family member that is more at risk so after considering all the effort it would take to make it Covid-safe for both students coming to our home studio and for our family members that use the space during the day it just wouldn’t be make sense for me. I have gotten requests for virtual classes but since the atmosphere and the music is a huge part of the journey, it just wouldn’t be meaningful enough via Zoom. I appreciate the calls and requests I have gotten since this pandemic began. I hope you stay safe and that when this is over..
