We love it when community partners work together! Conestoga Valley Christian Community Services (CVCCS) heard about our Outreach Worker needs and went into their donation room and gathered up toiletries, backpacks, and warm knitted items for us. Thank you CVCCS for thinking of us and Lisa for dropping them off and giving a shoutout to community partners working hand in hand to make a difference in the community! Our Outreach Workers meet those who are experiencing homelessness where they arein the streets, woods and other locations not suitable for human habitationto engage them and refer them to the services and supports they need to cross the bridge from homelessness to housing. At the moment Angela was accepted and moved into Beth Shalom, she began to see the hope that she has today. She saw a home where her newborn son would be safe, an opportunity to work toward being reunited with her ten year- old son, and a place where she would be supported, encouraged, and empowered toward a self-sufficient life. Read more about Angela’s story: http://bit.ly/bshopnewsletterfall2020 Beth Shalom, a program of Tabor, has a mission to end prison recidivism by providing a comprehensive Christian interim housing program for single mothers leaving prison, where they can reunite with their children and be empowered with the skills and opportunities necessary for long-term self-sufficiency.

As part of the ExtraGive, we will be hosting the 2020 Camp Out for Homelessness. This year, we are challenging you to take charge by setting up your own Camp Out for Homelessness in your own space as fundraising champions for Tabor, TLC, Beth Shalom, Lancaster Housing Opportunity Partnership (LHOP), and SoWe during the Extra Give. Register TODAY to participate: bit.ly/campoutlanc2020 As moratoriums are lifted, it is projected that 30-40 million Americans will be at risk of ev...iction in the next several months. We all know someone or have been personally affected by the financial impact of COVID-19. We are potentially facing a housing crisis on a scale that we have never seen or experienced in our lifetime. Your support and advocacy for the work that we do is now more important than ever. All of these programs continue to play a critical role supporting individuals, families, and veterans in our community as they overcome challenges related to homelessness, financial stability, homeownership, and so much more. Today, we are playing a major role in Lancaster County’s Eviction Prevention Network. As a fundraising champion through the ExtraGive participating in the 2020 Host Your Own Camp Out for Homelessness, you will make a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors as they put in the hard work to get back on their feet as they overcome these unprecedented challenges. A few event highlights: Be an advocated and fundraise for individuals, families, and veterans experiencing homelessness in Lancaster County Camp out in your backyard, patio, or living room Challenge yourself to learn more about homelessness in your community through documentaries, movies, and educational materials Watch our program and hear from and connect with individuals who have experienced homelessness Camp Out Booklet for more information: http://bit.ly/campoutbooklet Please register before November 15. Earlier this year, Mike was out of work and realized that he wasn’t able to afford the apartment that they were living in. A friend and fellow vet mentioned that TLC has a program specifically for veterans. Knowing that they needed a place to stay, Mike reached out, and the next day they moved in. At TLC, a program of Tabor Community Services, Mike had two primary goals. First, he wanted to quickly find a job. He also wanted to find a safe and affordable place for him and his daughter to call home. Having been in his apartment since June, Mike is doing well and is glad to share the news that he’s already been promoted at work. We are thankful for the hard work that he put into his time at TLC and know that his family has a bright future! Read more about Mike’s journey: http://bit.ly/tlcnewsletterfall2020

In the process of taking it week by week, we have proven once again that we are stronger together and we have the means to prevent a bad situation (risk of eviction) from getting worse (risk of homelessness). Now when I look to the future, while there is much we still don’t know, I am confident eviction prevention will remain a standard part of our community’s safety net. In the face of great uncertainty, we are creating the future we want to see." - Mike McKenna, a letter from Tabor’s president in our most recent Fall 2020 newsletter. Krista doesn’t have the easiest life, but she wouldn’t tell you that. She’s cheerful, hopeful, and has a plan for a better life for her family. As a single mother of two boys, being employed full time, and also having recently started as a full-time student, her life was busy enough without the added challenges that 2020 had in store for her. Through a series of challenges due to COVID-19, she got behind on rent and depending on the circumstances, she would have been evicted. Today, she isn’t burdened by the prospect of a potential eviction because she is working with her landlord and the Eviction Prevention Network.
