Tonight was our annual luminary paddle and what a great night it was too! It's the people that make these paddles, so thank you to all that joined us making the night what it was, FUN!

We've had warm, cold, snow, and ice in our 5 years of Luminaries paddles. This year?... warm and moist? We'll find out Saturday. Fall Foliage Paddle - What a great day we had on the water. We put in in above the Allegheny creek, paddled 6 miles down to where we stopped for lunch. We then paddled back down to TIOA's headquarters covering a total of 14.9 miles, let's just say 15! Along with seeing lots of fall signs, we saw several turtles, lots of King fishers, a cormorant and 3 bald eagles! It may not have been sunny the whole time, but the temperature was ideal for a late October paddle!

A great day for a paddle with autumn hues, herons, cormorant and several bald eagles. Here's the first set of photos from today's fall Foliage paddle. More soon.

Tow Path and Lock #60 to be closed October 21st to the 26th.

NOTICE: October 21 to 26 Tow Path Road (road to Lock 60) is being repaved. The road milling will take place between Oct 21 and 22. On Oct 23, base and leveli...ng to change pitch of road will take place and final paving on Oct 26. There will be times during paving of Tow Path Road that it will be critical to stay off Tow Path Road and the road to Lock 60 will be closed at times. Thank you for your cooperation.

An FYI on trail closures

We had perfect weather for our Birds by Bike and Boat event with Audubon Pennsylvania. We were escorted on our ride along the Schuylkill River Trail by an assortment of Vultures, Red Tail Hawks and a mature Bald Eagle. At the lunch stop, Oden and Tricia from John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove shared wonderful insight about the area's birds and of course lots on Owls. As Brandon was sharing updates on migration season and tips for spotting birds during our kayaking adv...enture, a bunch of mergansers gave a speedy flyby. Sightings along the river included Great Blue Heron, Grey Heron, and Belted Kingfisher along with a plethora of waterfowl. We had a great day with lots of new people and the volunteers from Audubon center and look forward to our next collaborative event. Keep an eye out, we're planning more. Thank you to our guests, Audubon volunteers, TIO volunteers and guides for the day together and Bause Catered Events Inc for making our picnic meal.

A hardy group of eighth graders from a local private school are hitting the river today despite the gloomy weather! Adventures take place in every type of weather, but rain certainly seems to make some of the best memories!

If you've never heard of Blazers Ski Club, check them out! They are an awesome organization that does exactly what we love, getting people outside! While it's certainly not skiing, we were able to get them out on the water for an offseason adventure. "Thank you for an amazing outing with Take it Outdoors last week. By my count, we had 16 people (adults and children) in the group, and everyone had a fantastic time. We also really appreciate your patience when our outing was slightly delayed. Your professionalism and enthusiasm for our team event was perfect. "

Fall is definitely in the air. We biked the Lehigh Valley Gorge today and what a beautiful day it was too!
