The Historical Society of St Marys and Benzinger Township will not be having their annual Potato Pancake Supper this year. We continue to plan for July 2021 a...nd hoping we can all get together again at the Sportsman’s club. Our Society on Erie Ave in St Marys is open by appointment only. We continue to work on our Wedding Displays and are still welcoming donations of wedding gowns on a permanent or temporary basis. Our December annual dinner is still scheduled depending on the pandemic. The Society newsletter will be printed as usual. We welcome new volunteers at any time. Please contact us if you need help with genealogy research. See more

As we observe the 152nd annual celebration of Gen. John A. Logan's Order No. 11 calling for: I. The 30th day of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land. In this observance no form or ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own wa...y arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit. Seven members of this community served in the 74th Pa. Volunteer Infantry Regiment and were mustered in at Pittsburgh on September 14th, 1861. Perhaps one or more of these gentlemen are in your family tree and deserve recognition on this day. Martin Fritz; Charles Herbstritt; George Nissel; John Staufer; Andrew Staufer; Francis Weidenboerner; and Francis X. Weis. Four of these men are listed as Sergeants on the Pennsylvania Monument at Gettysburg. R.I.P. See more
