If only I knew then what I know now......EAT MUSHROOMS AND LIVE LONGER......I've been researching alternative cures for cancer since my Dad's sister was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 1977 at 46 years old...gone within 2 months. My Mom, one sister, their Aunt and a cousin all died from breast cancer. Am I or my daughters, my cousins doomed? I pray that we are not. Just recently a woman came into The Mushroom Cap who forages for mushrooms...she finds lots of Turkey Ta...il mushrooms (breast cancer fighter). I wanted to chat more but she had to go.....then last night a friend mentioned how mushrooms, along with other foods, stop the growth of cancer.......she is taking an integrative nutrition/medicine course. Say NO to Chinese shiitake mushrooms! American consumers need to know that more likely than not, the shiitake mushrooms they are eating are grown on logs that are inoculated and produced in China. I have been preaching about the Chinese Shiitake mushrooms to every consumer who ask to purchase shiitake mushrooms at The Mushroom Cap. We only sell Shiitake mushrooms that are produced on KSS Shiitake logs. Who wants to eat anything from China knowing that there have been issues with dog food as well as baby formula and milk that has come from China? To say they are American grown is definitely faking the public! Consumers have told us they smell like fish and that they have a very rubbery texture. Who knows what is in those logs?

Today I had the privilege of meeting Mirko Reeh. He is a TV chef in Germany. His original plan was to be here for Mushroom Festival but that did not work out this year...maybe 2020. Thank you Will Swan from CCCVB and Mirko for stopping by! Fun visit!

4 lbs of locally foraged Chicken of the Woods arrived yesterday. POLYPORE OMELET 3 Tablespoons butter... 1 cup diced Chicken of the Woods 1/4 cup shredded Monterey Jack or cream cheese 2 or 3 shallots, diced 1 Tablespoon chopped fresh parsley 5 or 6 eggs 1/2 cup cream or half and half Salt and pepper Melt the butter in a heavy frying pan over low heat. Beat the eggs and cream, add salt and pepper to taste; pour into the pan. As the eggs start to cook, sprinkle the Chicken of the Woods, cheese, shallots and parsley over the top. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes more until the egg mixture sets. Fold the omelet over and remove from the heat; cover and let sit for 1 minute.

The Mushroom Cap will be closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Enjoy your 4th of July Holiday!

American consumers need to know....... Same thing is happening with shiitake mushrooms. The government is allowing shiitake logs (do they really have a shelf life of 12 months to 2 years?) to come into the US via containers from China calling the product spawn......but saying the shiitakes are American grown......Sad thing is these logs have made their way to KSQ. This kind of Shiitake should not happen here! The Mushroom Cap sells shiitake mushrooms grown on logs produced here in Kennett Square by Kennett Square Specialties.
