Do I Need to File This Year? It’s true some people aren’t required to file federal income tax. If your income is low enough, you don’t need to file, because you won’t owe any tax. (See Do I Need to File a Tax Return? on the IRS website for details.) However, the government may owe you money. If you qualify for certain tax credits, or your employer withheld federal income taxes from your paycheck in 2019, you may qualify for a refund. The caveat: You need to file that 1040 form quickly the deadline for 2019 is July 15, 2020.

When is my Pennsylvania state income tax due? You know about the federal income tax extension this year but what about state tax? Like the IRS, the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue extended the deadline for taxpayers because of the coronavirus pandemic. July 15 Is Still Tax Day! The IRS gave Americans one extension to file taxes this year, but there won’t be another. Because of the COVID-19 crisis, the deadline to file and pay 2019 federal taxes was originally moved from April 15 to July 15, 2020.... Many taxpayers and tax professionals were hopeful that the deadline might be extended again, especially because many states are still under travel and work restrictions due to the pandemic. However, the IRS isn't budging; they announced on June 29 that the deadline for filing and paying 2019 federal tax is still July 15, 2020.
