On Virginia Woolf, Balzac, and extraordinary living #KrystalBick shares a story of creating an extraordinary life out of the everyday and how it gives sustenance to her soul. "Today's post celebrates a few small (but incredibly joyful) things first is this darling bag by @theamericae and second, is their brand ethos #realityisextraordinary a way of seeing the magic in the every day, something that's been heavy on my mind these past few weeks. Let me explain...... A reader of mine recently introduced me to the word flâneuse a French noun, referring to a person who quite literally strolls with a keen focus on observing contemporary life. Flânerie is the act, and perhaps more appropriately put, the art of said wandering. Honoré de Balzac called it "the gastronomy of the eye." Virginia Woolf, in true Woolf fashion, coined it as "street haunting." Holly Golightly single handedly epitomized it with her early morning musings at Tiffany's. I suppose, without even realizing it, I've always been a flâneuse at heart. For as long as I can remember, my favorite trips have been solo ones where I'm left to my own devices to roam unfamiliar streets, with no other agenda for the day than to simply "see what I can see." And now, here in New York with the weight of an ongoing pandemic, my daily walks since March have been an unlikely source of salvation for me. A way of seeing the city with new eyes, observing her quirks, her quiet streets and the daily rituals of those who frequent her, as she slowly, but most certainly, comes back to life. While Balzac and Woolf said little to nothing about the sartorial choices of a flâneuse, I'm sure it surprises none of you when I say I take a page from Golightly's book in that I like to dress up for said walks. And this @theamericae bag has been the pièce de résistance of my outfits lately from the grain of the teak wood to the red velvet lining, from the gold-plated brass clasp closure to a raw emerald adorned on top. Handcrafted by an array of artisans in South America, each piece is transformed by carpenters, gemologists and leather workers...a true cross-generational art." #AMERICAEwoman See more

Unapologetic living it's our ethos. On today's AMERICAE chitchats we talk with @delanique about how she interprets #realityisextraordinary and pursues her life story unapologetically. 'Reality is extraordinary' is like an AMERICAE proverb, our guide to pursuing a passionate and purposeful life. Tell us how you pursue yours: "Self-empowerment to me is a non-negotiable act of self love. Waking up every morning intentionally saying a word of gratitude and reading a chap...ter or two from my current favorite book ‘The Power of Your Subconscious Mind’ by Joseph Murphy." Advice to my younger self: "Hold on to that bright and fearless love for life that you have inside of you, and never let it go. Even when the world seems to be changing." Approach to self-confidence and starting a business: "In the beginning I always felt that I didn't know everything or enough to have a voice in this industry, until I realized that knowing everything isn't the goal, as long as I am always open to learning." Delanique Millwood is the founder @skintellect.co and head of partnerships @bondofficialusa. @delanique is wearing The Rectangular Raw Emerald Bag. Let us share a story about a color that began as a mythic elixir, soared through art and fashion, and became our signature shade. Chartreuse, like other herbal liqueurs, is an elixir of life. A cure-all, good for digestion and headaches, for sleeping like an infant, and living until you’re ninety. Even if you haven’t had Chartreuse, you’ve probably tasted something similar. Italy has Fernet Branca, Poland has Krupnik, and Portugal has Beirao. Tasting of strong magic, it’s... easy to imagine that Chartreuse could cure you. The color chartreuse is named for the liqueur. Like the color orange, which began as a fruit, this sharp and bright shade of green only secondarily became a color. According to legend, Carthusian monks concocted this elixir by macerating over 130 herbs. Chartreuse the color was recorded in print for the first time in 1884. Artists had long been using the intense shade to depict energy and excitement. Jean-Honore Fragonard, a rococo French painter, was fond of chartreuse. Vincent Van Gogh was also a fan of the shade. From the Impressionists onward, chartreuse was used to depict both green grass and the city at night. If chartreuse rose to prominence in art, through fashion it leapt out. Chartreuse has played a starring role in fashion since the 18th century. By the late 1800s, chartreuse could be found on fans, gowns, purses, shoes, and hats. Prohibition-era flappers wore chartreuse dropped-waist dresses while they sipped their gin-and-chartreuse cocktail. It was a favorite of 1960's trendsetters and a crown-jewel in Cristobal Balenciaga’s collections. In 1997, the color played a pivotal role in one of the most memorable Oscars gowns a John Galliano for Christian Dior dress. The Costume Institute at the Met has praised the color for its awakening effect. In the last few years, it’s been named the color of the year by both @Pantone and @Etsy and is a fixture for ready-to-wear and couture. It also happens to be our signature color our shade being the perfect mix of vivid yellow sun and deep green flora. Chartreuse sings the song of difference, magic, and joy. What’s more gorgeous than that? #AMERICAE #chartreuse
