The Underground Marketplace's one year Anniversary Celebration begins this weekend!! Cathy and Steve, the proprietors of Weekend in the Country, have been together sharing their passions for antiques and vintage clothing for over 40 years. Cathy started as a pre-teen in the 1960’s going to flea markets, yard sales and auctions with her mom. Our first ever Christmas open house "Cocktails and Candy Canes" begins today! All week we've come to the mall to find our candy canes strewn about everywhere. Last night we strategically set up a few extra cameras, staged an entire case of candy canes in front of one of them, and left Bella to guard the mall. You'll never believe what we caught on camera! Today, we had the pleasure of serving a sweet couple from the Pittsburgh area. They drove 3 hours to visit us and found a wonderful primitive pine cupboard for their kitchen. They came to our check out counter with almost $500 in neatly clipped one dollar bills! They explained that collecting one dollar bills that carried their initial was something the women in their family did to save up for fun and special items for themselves. Her first initial happened to be J so she co...llected dollars ordered in Kansas city. This is such a meaningful tradition that should be shared with more children and grandchildren. Saving should be fun and rewarding. Our initial is L so we'll be collecting bills from San Francisco. What bank would you collect? Update: Our talented vendors have unanimously voted for Clem the Chipmunk to receive clemency! We stacked a delicious sugar cookie on top of a chocolate whoopie pie with peanut butter filling and staged a safe trap. Clem was caught off guard when the doors closed but he cheerfully nibbled his sweet treats all the way to Letort Park. We found a fantastic spot with soft grass, a babbling brook, and shade trees that was a much better home for Clem than our downtown location. He'll be turning over a new leaf here in historic Downtown Carlisle.
