Dear friends & customers, a co-workers let us know today that someone they came in contact outside of work with has tested positive for COVID-19, right on the heels of another co-worker who has displayed a symptom of the virus. Both let us know before coming into work (per our guidelines), are under quarantine and getting tested today! The Franklin Fountain & Franklin Ice Cream Bar will be closed for the next 24HRS until Mon Oct. 26th at 2p while we clean our facilities as a precautionary measure. This virus is no joke! Please continue being vigilant as we move into the cooler months, and patient with businesses who prioritize and safety & precaution. Continue wearing your mask and be kind! We’ll keep you updated via our social media channels.

Our Hot Menu is rolling out just in time for cooler weather! This morning we started serving our fresh baked Sourdough Waffles, which can be enjoyed on their own or with ice cream and toppings!Over the last month, our kitchen has been perfecting this waffle recipe, so the end result today was exciting for us all. One co-worker made themselves a warm Waffle a la Mode with Vanilla Ice Cream and Wet Maple Walnuts as a special breakfast in celebration!

Between the 1880s and 1920s, Americans expressed their political, social, & cultural views with pins and buttons, affixed to their hats and shirts. Though it's often forgotten, this time period saw people of all backgrounds and walks of life fighting injustices through demonstration, art, community leadership, protest, and literature, laying the groundwork for the freedoms we enjoy now. In this vein, we've created our own pins celebrating the heroes often overlooked for this ...time period, the time period we reflect in our shops, to bring awareness to the historical efforts for change in our culture. All proceeds from these pins go directly to the ACLU to support those fighting for progressive causes today. Pick one up at https://shanecandies.com//gif/heroes-of-the-1900s-buttons/. One of our heros is Jovita Idar, a Mexican-American journalist, teacher, activist, and civil rights worker who championed the causes of Mexican-Americans and Mexican immigrants. Today is Jovita Idar's 135th Birthday! At an early age, Jovita was was profoundly aware of the political & cultural landscape of Chicano people in the U.S., being born into an indigenous Mexican family in the United States who ran a newspaper that highlighted Mexican-Americans civil rights & social justice issues. She earned her teaching certification in 1903 and taught, but soon found herself disheartened by the poor state of the segregated schools she worked in. When petitions to the school board fell on deaf ears, she joined her family’s revolutionary newspaper where she fought against the underlying segregation and discrimination to improve lives of the Mexican-Americans more holistically. Idár became the first president of the League of Mexican Women, which offered free, quality education to Mexican children, and brought awareness to labor, education, and women’s rights in the community. She also participated in the Primer Congreso Mexicanista, an organization dedicated to fighting inequality and racism through education, shared learning, and collaborative, community efforts.
