Take a walk to Germantown and Nippon St. to see the AMAZING murals created by kids from the After School Community Arts Project, a program of the Mt. Airy Art Garage, Mt. Airy Playground, and the Drumcliff Foundation! This 5 month project featured children drawing pictures about 3 different food activities--Thanksgiving, a picnic, and a birthday party. Their drawings were assembled by a graphic artist into a composition that the kids then painted on fabric panels. The panel...s were installed yesterday outside of Jyoti Indian Restaurant. Mt. Airy Playground Art Club had two participants whose art work received an honorable mention in the National Wildlife Refuge's Jr. Duck Stamp Contest 2019. Yesterday, the girls received their awards at John Heinz NWR. Junior Duck Stamps can be purchased from U.S. Postal Service for $5 per stamp. Proceeds from the sale of Junior Duck Stamps support conservation education.You can also make donations to the program on Amazon.com. Art Club kids completed this season's butterfly project! Part of the Outdoor Experience program, 15 Rec. Centers paint or collage large butterfly forms made out of plywood while learning about the actual butterfly or moth they were assigned. Ours was a moth called the Black-Etched Prominent Moth. Our moth will be displayed at Sister Cities Park, along with the others. Notice we included the caterpillar and phases of the moon, since moths are active at night!
