War No More!
This is Roger Fenton's photographic van. The first war photographer. A lot of photographers would be if they had to lug around a van now. It's great that cameras fit in a backpack today. Marcus Sparling seated on Fenton's photographic van, Crimea, 1855.
On January 31, 1839, 183 years ago, photographic history was made when English inventor William Henry Fox Talbot's paper was hastily read at the Royal Society. ...It was titled Some Account of the Art of Photogenic Drawing, or the Process by which Natural Objects May Be Made to Delineate Themselves without the Aid of the Artist’s Pencil. Today there is the question of how much his wife Constance's efforts helped him succeed with his process. She experimented with the process in 1839, and has been credited as the first woman to take a photograph. Maybe she should have gotten at least a credit line? She was indeed "Henry’s devoted and patient wife. I do sometimes wonder if Constance Talbot (née Mundy) (1811-1880) had more involvement into her husband's invention than we know. Was she possibly the first women to make a photograph? Her letters show that she was using a camera as early as May 1839. This was before her husbands experiments were know to the public. An early documented photograph by Constance was made on December 1, 1843. This photograph is of the first four lines of the Last Rose of Summer by their neighbor and family friend the Irish poet Thomas Moore. It is a photograph of a typeset poem. She also made a photograph of a handwritten poem by Thomas Moore. Although these images are not exciting of look at, they were absolutely made by Constance. Her efforts in image making were overshadowed by her husband. Some notable Talbot historians like H J P Arnold believe she was the world first female photographer, and that some of her photographs have been falsely attributed to her husband. This is speculation I know, but William Henry Fox Talbot doesn’t seem like a man who would share the glory with anyone, even his wife. See more

Still love this GIF! Educational and nice to look at. Digital demonstration of the mixing of Red, Green, and Blue light, the Additive Primaries that make up Whi...te Light. This makes me want to get out my three projectors and do some color mixing with RGB filters. Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow, the Subtractive Primaries, can be seen wherever two of the Additive Colors overlap. Where all three overlap you see White. Don't you just love Color Theory! I do! See more
