I tend to order notions in large batches to make the most out of my shipping charges so the arrival of a new stock of supplies means I got to finish off several products that were awaiting some final finishing touches. 1. Custom 4th Continental Light Dragoons officer's stable jacket. Made of a indigo colored plain weave light wool with red worsted trim. Brass coin buttons and metallic lace. 2. Light Gray wool flannel contract style federal issue shirt. 3. 18th century civilian coat made with olive green linen, with a light weight fustian lining and 6 black horn buttons.
It is with both regret and excitement that I announce some major changes to The Stitching Dutchman. Due to the continued demands of my full time work as well as new commitments to unit based supply and custom orders I am going to be paring down many of the offerings of my business here. We are not closing at all! Repeat not closing but rather slimming down our normal offerings in an effort to better serve our customers. What this means is that we will be concentrating on have...rsacks and knapsacks for our 18th century customers and kepis, knapsacks, and haversacks for our 19th century customers. All other items will continue to be offered but on an In Stock only basis. Doing such will allow me to increase my delivery times as well as get back out to events as a vendor. Something I have not been able to do in some time due to inability to build stock. I will be updating the website this week to reflect such changes as well as adding an in stock page which will be updated weekly. We will also be sure to post our In Stock items here regularly. We currently have some new projects underway which will be the first to hit the page. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I look forward to being able to continue to offer high quality reproductions and better serving all of you! See more
Some of our on going out of the norm projects: a run of confederate sharpshooter badges and a tacked together pair of 18th century leather breeches. These have some seams done and the rest tacked in place. They'll be sent out this week for a final fitting with the customer before I post finished photos in a few weeks.
So we have been inundated with custom work in between our normal orders. Look for some interesting 18th century pieces in the next few weeks, but here is a Confederate 4 button jacket\ military sack coat just finished. Assembled from a Ben Tart mark up with natural linen thread topstitching and wooden buttons.
Just over a month of on again/off again work between other customers orders but here it is finally done. The double breasted frock coat I posted as cutting pieces several weeks ago. Made of Ben Tart drab jean with Federal I buttons. Unfortunately the highly fitted body and eased sleeves make it look a bit weird when laid flat. Since its actually a personal coat perhaps we will get the wife to help with some photos this week of it being worn.
