UPDATE (4:47 p.m.) - The source of the smoke has been located and the power has been cut. Fans are being brought in to remove the smoke and units are returning to station. COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FIRE CALL Fire crews responding to the Penn State Rehab Hospital, 1135 Old West Chocolate Ave., in Derry Township for "smoke in a structure."... First responders on the scene said there is smoke in the therapy room.

SHEETZ IS OPEN! The new Sheetz store on East Main Street in Derry Township is open for business! If you're a beer drinker, however, you'll have to wait to buy alcohol at the Beer Cave. UPDATE (1/5/2021, 12:52 p.m.): Elwood has been found! Bow Wow BOLO: Hummelstown Police is looking for the public's help in locating this pup. Elwood has been missing from his Hummelstown home since noon today (Monday). He was last spotted in the area of Main and Rosanna streets. Anyone with information can contact the Hummelstown Borough office at 717-566-3251 or Dauphin County Dispatch at 717-558-6900.

Sand Hill Road Closure Update From PPL Sand Hill Road between Forest Avenue and Cherry Drive will remain closed continuously, including this weekend, as PPL works on an underground transmission line project in this area. Local traffic will still be able to access the road, but all other motorists should follow the detour signs. Work in the section of Sand Hill Road requiring the continuous closure should be completed late next week. Previous information from PPL incorrectl...y stated this section of Sand Hill would be open to traffic at night and on the weekend. PPL apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused. Crews will be working on Sand Hill this Saturday, Oct. 31, to recover time lost to inclement weather. Crews will leave the work area by 5:30 p.m. to avoid conflicts with Trick-or-Treat in the township. After the portion of the project requiring the continuous road closure is completed, PPL will continue its work on Sand Hill Road between Forest Avenue and Cherry Drive, with road closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., until sometime in mid-November.

SAND HILL ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE PPL is continuing its work on an underground transmission line in the area. Crews need to make repairs to the duct bank underneath Sand Hill Road, starting on Friday, Nov. 20. The portion of Sand Hill Road between Cherry Drive and Fishburn Road will be closed from Friday at 6 a.m. until the repair work is completed which will likely be on Monday, Nov. 23 at 6 a.m. ... Local traffic will still be able to access the road, but all other motorists should follow the detour signs.

In Middletown, crews battled a fire on the 100 block of North Catherine Street, Tuesday evening, Oct. 27. First responders were dispatched around 4:45 p.m. and when they arrived on scene found a "working fire." The blaze was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported. TRAFFIC ALERT IN DERRY TOWNSHIP From now through approximately Nov. 6, PPL Electric Utilities will be working on Sand Hill Road in Derry Township to install an underground electric transmission line. Sand Hill Road will be closed between Forest Avenue/Clark Road and Cherry Drive from Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please follow the detour signs for alternate routes. The road will be open after 5 p.m. and on weekends. The construction is part of PPL’s continuing work in the area to replace an aging above-ground transmission line with the new underground line, which will help prevent power outages and keep electricity reliable for customers in the region.

Cocoa Packs will be distributing free fresh produce, dairy products and meat this week for Dauphin County residents. The drive-thru distribution will take place in the Hershey Middle School parking lot from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Monday and Wednesday. Any Dauphin County resident in need will receive a 20 to 30-pound box of food at no cost.

UPDATE: Jinx has returned home! Bow Wow BOLO: Jinx slipped her collar in downtown Hershey on Friday evening. She was last seen in the field along Cocoa Avenue, near Giant. She is friendly, but shy. Her home is in the Southpoint development, off Middleltown Road, so she may be headed there. If found call Desiree at 717-350-3120.
