New Wills Eye Wear store at 8th & Arch. If you can't put a sign IN the window, put it behind the window.

FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (today), I left my uncle’s store, where I sliced baloney, and started working for James Higgins at Chart Art. In advertising, I’ve been selling baloney ever since. ... Thank you James Willian Higgins. I use something you taught me everyday to this day.

It’s a while since I looked at this. Cut from the out takes and long scenes of CTCA’s Welcome video. I love Philadelphia. https://vimeo.com/89507662

Throw back Thursday 1981 or 82. I’m the young Art Director (1st on the right.) It was the 1st page of Schenley's 4 page corporate ad. The center spread was every bottle Schenley sold. The shot, in the years before we did it, took over a month to do with brand managers fighting who's bottle was up front. We did it in 2 weeks. ... There was that old guy waving cane and his secretary following him around. He was intolerable until after lunch and had his 3 martinis. I remember including in the photographer’s fee stocking all his cabinets with nothing but Schenley brand bottles because the client would look. It was OK to leave any beer in the Coke machine. Anyway, I was so proud I finally made the photographer, George M. Cochran’s self-promotion Black Book with that shot. It was one of the best awards I ever won.

In 1976, on a PA lottery Daily Number commercial shoot, a young AE named Ed Mahlman tried to convince me to do this with just an extra in a wheelchair. Ed was way ahead of time. I should have done it when I had the chance.
