Toll Man Joe's 07.07.2021

One of our favorite old pictures. Perfect opportunity to wish everyone a joyful, memorable holiday season. We're all adapting as we go along, and these last 9 months have not been easy on the bar/restaurant industry. Of course it has been extremely difficult and heartbreaking for those families who have lost loved ones. We miss you all, and hope you get to cherish the time with your families this holiday. Please try to keep supporting our local bar/restaurants who are fighting every day to survive, and special thank you to our front line workers. Merry Christmas everyone, and stay safe!

Sharing this story with permission, but wanted to post something positive. We have been selling our bar stools all week, and of course that makes us sad. It does not say where they’re from on the listing. Today someone came to pick some up and was chatting with my son. Turns out his first date with his wife was at Toll Man Joe’s! He sent this picture when he got home. It makes us so happy to hear stories of how many lives were impacted in a positive way. Thanks for letting me share guys, and I hope you somehow ended up with the same stools you sat on that night!

Well we have some sad and very disappointing news to share with you all. For many reasons beyond our control, Toll Man Joe’s Philadelphia will not be re-opening at this time. Obviously the pandemic caused catastrophic damage, and will continue to do so for a long time. Bars and restaurants have a very long road ahead to return to fully functional. We gave it our all during the closure, and I feel we succeeded in thinking outside the box. Chef Arty came up with some very ...creative ideas that actually worked! We became a Chinese restaurant for some weeks while they were all closed. Soul Food. Clam Bakes. We tried everything. Our managers became delivery drivers. Whatever it took. But there has also been a lot going on behind the scenes. We have been in negotiations for a new lease for a while now. There are bills and expenses that have obviously fallen behind. Even though we believe we have offered good faith solutions and effort, our landlords have demanded that we leave the building. We can not answer at this time whether a different location is a possibility. Toll Man Joe’s has been a very personal endeavor for many people since September, 2016. It took a village to bring to life the heart and soul of a bar/restaurant based on the larger than life Joe Paul. It wasn’t easy, and it came with many sacrifices. But each and every person on that evolving team contributed, and helped shape what it became. I think we succeeded and created something special. We’re beyond blessed that Chef Arty chose us to be his next creative endeavor 4 years ago. He believed in us, and taught us so much. We were lucky to have only a handful of amazing managers over our time. You all saved us at different crucial times. We thank you. I still don’t know how we got so lucky with our small core group of amazing employees who have been with us since day one. Our day one crew. YOU are our backbone, along with the many who joined us along the way. They include servers, bartenders, catering, kitchen staff, dishwashers, cleaning staff. I will never forget your loyalty. And lastly, to you our customers, who have become friends. Thank you for giving the little guys a real chance. We know you have many options. We’ve shared so much with you over the past 4 years. Who gets to say they owned a sports bar during an Eagles Super Bowl win, and celebrate with 500 people? It sure has been a ride. So many amazing musicians, DJ’s. Benefits for our community. We thank you for all of it. All we hope we’ve achieved is that we’ve made a difference. Helped create some lifelong memories. Love you all. Thank you. We hope to see you all out and about to share a drink. See more

Hello everyone! We wanted to let you all know that we are still evaluating our options of moving forward during these extremely difficult times. The restrictions do not make it easy to open and be worthwhile. Unless you hear information directly from an owner of Toll Man Joe’s, or this page, it is rumors. Our loyal customers will be the first to know when a decision is made. From us directly. Thank you!

2 more days until Philadelphia moves into the yellow phase. Philadelphia restaurants were forbidden to even consider outside dining until we had "permission" f...rom city officials. I am painfully aware that there is sheer horror occurring in the city and around the world right now. But I see other cities and states still trying to move forward, and laying out their protocols and rules to be followed. Not a word from the Mayor except "do not advertise outside seating for June 5." Lets just wait until there is nothing left to even open back up. Small business owners can not hold on much longer See more

Toll Man Joe's has decided to temporarily close starting tomorrow. There is so much uncertainty right now, and we are taking a breather until Mayor Kenney decides on a time frame to open for outside dining. Obviously that is the last thing on his plate today, so we're hoping for some guidance by mid week. We are so grateful to every one of you who has supported us during these difficult times. We're not giving up yet, but we need some hope of at least partial re-opening to move forward. We will keep you posted every step of the way

Mayor Kenney, you should have been preparing for this for weeks now, so that when our governor gave the ok, the city would be ready. We’ve all been struggling for two months. So many have closed for good. Release your guidelines and protocol and let us have the week to get to work making sure we can follow them. Every day matters to us Mayor. We don’t have the luxury to wait until it’s convenient for you to help us get back on our feet. This is not a political attack in any way. This is a plea to give us our fair chance to open our outside seating next Friday. Thank you
