I understand the reason for quick oil change shops and the like, I really do. No appointment needed, in and out in 20 minutes, it's a great convenience for many who run busy lives. Besides, how can one possibly screw up an oil change? ...Right? This is how; an over tightened drain plug, causing the washer to become crushed down so much that it no longer served it's purpose; keeping the oil in the engine. Fortunately this car was brought in here shortly after where I was able ...to install a new washer before any damage occured. But this simple, honest mistake can yield expensive consequences. This is what I see all too often from these places. Everything is quick, quick, quick, but quick does not equal efficient, and it certainly doesn't mean quality. Replacing the rear main seal on this 2013 Tiguan. Unfortunately the design of the crankcase breather in these TSI engines is not great; when they fail they over-pressurize the crankcase and blow out the weakest point; the rear seal. It causes oil leaks and rough running/misfire at idle.
